Balaji Patturaj (born 20 June) is an Indian radio jockey, comedian, producer, cricket commentator, and actor based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

He is best known as the host of the BIG FM 92.7 show The Night Show with RJ Balaji, Take it Easy, and its now defunct segment Cross Talk, where he made prank calls to unsuspecting victims. He has appeared at several inter-school cultural festivals in Chennai, as a cricket commentator, and has been active in numerous social causes, including helping the victims of the 2015 South Indian floods victims.

Early life

Balaji was born on June 20th and was raised in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He has four siblings, one younger brother, and three younger sisters. At an unspecified time, he said that his father abandoned his family at an unspecified time. Balaji said in a 2013 interview with The Hindu that he converted 24 houses and 11 schools during his growing up in Chennai because his "mother just cannot stay in one place." Balaji discovered that his passion was in relationship, and that the intrigue and acclaim he received in his college culture gave him hope, and he understood he had to be in the media.

Balaji earned a BSc computer science degree from the Kumararani Meena Muthiah College of Arts in 2006 because he wanted to become like his cousin who worked at NDTV, but he soon discovered that English journalism was not what he was interested in. He saw a newspaper advertisement of a radio station (Radio Mirchi Coimbatore) that auditioned for radio jockeys and applied for it, but he "never knew" an RJ was back then." He said he almost did not get picked up as a child when he performed a gaana but was eventually chosen in November 2006. He hasn't finished his journalism degree since.

Personal life

Balaji was born in 21 years and has two sons. Balaji does not identify himself as a social worker or disaster manager, and he does not believe he is only someone who wants to help people, and that will only be done." He has always believed in one thing: "To be smart and do good work rather than being famous." So whatever I am doing, whether it be for a cause or not, I will do my best."

RJ Balaji Career

Career

Balaji began his career as a radio jockey at Radio Mirchi, where he hosted a three-hour morning drive show called Hello Coimbatore, which dealt with social problems. After four years of service, he resigned from his career as he "didn't want to sound angry all the time" and returned to Chennai, where his family and friends were staying. He appeared on 92.7 Big FM because they gave him the freedom to plan and design his four-hour slot; hence the show Take it Easy was born. The evening prime time show was designed to give people a "break from the hard stuff they must deal with during work hours and some to relax with the nonsense." Balaji's Cross Talk, where he made prank calls to uninformed victims, whether they were chosen by a friend, cousin, co-worker, or neighbor. Balaji said, "I was supposed to do a serious socially relevant show in the beginning, but Big [FM] gave me the opportunity to talk about anything in Take It Easy. People who listened to me once again found it amusing. That's how Cross Talk came about. Senthil Kumar, who he mastered radio and electronics in Coimbatore, was his favorite RJ, according to Balaji, "whatever I am right now is because of him."

Balaji posted several clips of the show on SoundCloud, making it very popular among youth. Over a million hits in a single week had gone viral, with the links going viral. Most of the downloads were in India (over 20%), United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Seychelles, Germany, and Spain. "Cross Talk Balaji" was his moniker on the show. "I am a normal guy who wants to do good work every day and go home happy," he said on Twitter. I can't really deal with the aftermath of any show on film. After a lot of thought, I have decided not to write about films until certain individuals from film fraternity's tolerance and maturity become more forthcoming. So, there is no more show than the '120 show.' "I don't want to keep my work home," he continued. My wife and I are worried about the phone calls I keep getting." The show continues to air as of July 2014, although only covers Hindi and English-language films.
