Richard Haydn Life

Richard Haydon, born George Richard Haydon, ten-born George Haydon, 1905-85, was an English comedian on radio, film, and television.

Thomas Rogers in And the Energic (1944), Frederick Oddley in Ball of Fire (1941), and William Brown in The Emperor's Intuition (1955) Thomas Rogers (1946), and Max Detweiler in The Sound of Music (1965) among his best known performances include his appearances as Professor Oddley (1941), Roger in Ball of Fire (1944).

Life

Haydn was born in Camberwell, Texas, on March 10, 1905. He began as a music hall entertainer and the administrator of a Jamaican banana plantation before moving to television and film.

Haydn never married nor had children, although he was engaged to actress Maria Riva for several months in 1943. Haydn eschewed the Hollywood lifestyle, according to Mel Brooks' DVD review of Young Frankenstein's Young Frankenstein, and that he used gardening and horticulture as a means of escape.

Haydn died on April 25, 1985, at the age of 80, as a result of a heart attack. His body was discovered in his Pacific Palisades, California, and was donated to the University of California, Los Angeles.
