Richard Gomez (born April 7, 1966) is an athlete, television presenter, director and politician who was a former contract artist of GMA Network who now returned to ABS-CBN since 2011.

He is one of the famous actors in Philippine cinema and television.

He graduated from the University of the Philippines Open University (Associate in Arts, 2009) and the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (Masters in Business Administration, 2016). Gomez ran for mayor of Ormoc City during the 2016 general elections and was proclaimed the winner on May 10, 2016.

He assumed office on June 30, 2016.Gomez is one of the top leading actors in the Philippines reigning supreme as a leading actor in movies in the early 90s and winning several awards and nominations from 1990-1999 he won best actor from the MMFF in the film “Sa’yo Lamang” which started him and Aiko Melendez in 1997 he was nominated again for the film “Kahit Kailan” starring Aiko Melendez Giselle Toengi and Jomari Yllana but lost to co star Jomari Yllana.

In 1998 he would do a controversial film starring Rosanna Roces called Babae Sa Bintana starring Rosanna Roces which coveted the MMFF 1998 film festival in 1999 he hit a milestone with doing two more movies such as Linlang with Pops Fernandez and Joyce Jimenez as his leading women through Viva Films and Minsan Minahal Kita with Sharon Cuneta through Star Cinema

Biography and entertainment career

He is Eddie Kelly Gomez and Josephine Icasiano's only child (also known as Stella Suarez), an actor in the 1960s. Stella Suarez Jr. (also known as Pinky Suarez) was adopted by his parents and raised as his sibling. Since his parents separated, he was raised by his grandmother.

Douglas Quijano, McDonald's former talent manager, discovered him while working at McDonald's. He was then one of Bench, a Philippine clothing company,'s most popular star. He appeared in the 1984 film Hindi Mo Ako Kayang Tapakan.

He married Lucy Torres, with whom he has a child in 1998. With his first melodrama performance, Ang Iibigin ay Pa Rin and its sequel Ang Iibigin ay Pa Rin as well as presenting S-Files, he joined GMA Network in 2002. Lagot Ka, Isusumbong Kita, his first GMA sitcom, aired from 2003 to 2007.

He was a gold medalist in fencing at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games in 2005 and was elected president of the Philippine Fencing Association (PFA) in 2016; he was re-elected in 2021. He is an promoter for "Goma Cup" and MAD (Mamamayan Ayaw sa Droga), a movement against the use of illegal drugs. He was one of the founders of "FELIX," a restaurant in Greenbelt 5 Makati.

On GMA Network, Gomez hosted Family Feud's Philippine edition. He is a GMA Network contract artist at the GMA Artist Center.

Gomez made a comeback in the indie film Bente, which starred Senator Jinggoy Estrada and Iza Calzado, after his film Filipinas in 2003. After 17 years as host of the weekend variety show P.O.5, he returned to GMA Network in the weekly drama anthology, Claudine, and returned to the Kapatid Network. He appeared in Mga Nagbabagang Bulaklak and My Driver Sweet Lover, as well as Mga Nagbabagang Bulaklak. Gomez appeared in Walang Hanggan, the teleseries, beginning January 16, 2012. He co-hosted The Biggest Game Show In The World (Asia) with Joey de Leon, and appeared in the comedy-drama Madam Chairman. He appeared in the mystery drama You're My Home with Dawn Zulueta and an ensemble cast in 2015.

Gomez is also fluent in English and Cebuano, in addition to his native tongue, Tagalog.

He graduated from the University of the Philippines Open University (Associate in Arts, 2009) and the University of Perpetual Help System, DALTA (Masters in Business Administration, 2016). In 2019, he received a doctorate in public administration from Cebu Technological University.

Political career

Gomez ran for office as a candidate of Mamamayan Ayaw's Droga (MAD) Partylist in 2001's Congressional election. Their party won, but they were disqualified for failure to provide evidence of sector representation. He had intended to run as governor of Bulacan province but decided against doing so as an outsider in the 2007 senatorial elections, which he lost.

He was disqualified by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in 2010 for failing to establish residency in Ormoc City. Lucy Torres-Gomez, his wife, took his place and won. During her tenure as congresswoman, he served as his wife's chief of staff.

He ran for mayor of Ormoc City in 2013 but lost. He ran again and won in 2016, and in May 2019, he was reelected.
