Richard Donat (born June 1, 1941) is a Canadian actor.

Known for his work in Canadian and American television.

In the Canadian-American television series Haven, he is best known for his portrayal of Vince Teagues.

Donat is Peter Donat's younger brother and the niece of British actor Robert Donat.

Career

Donat has been playing character roles for a long time, mainly on television, although he has appeared in films such as Tomorrow Never Comes (1978), Gas (1981), and Draw! (1984) My American Cousin (1985), Samuel Lount (1985), American Boyfriends (1989), The Weight of Water (1990) and Amelia (2009). In addition, he has narrated many documentaries, including a number of Nova episodes.

Donat appeared on television shows from 1998 to 2000, as Doctor Burnley in the Canadian television series Emily of New Moon. Colonel Boyle, the fort commander in the Canadian comedy series Blackfly, appeared in two seasons from 2001 to 2002. Vince Teagues, one of the editor of the local newspaper in Haven, England, was one of the same name from the TV series from 2010 to 2015. Although Haven is supposed to be in Maine, the film is shot in Nova Scotia, where Donat hails from.

Donat received the Dora Mavor Moore Award for his work in Brecht's In the Jungle of Cities in 1984. For his role in Sam Shepard's Fool For Love, he received a Merritt Award for "Outstanding Service – Supporting Actor" in 2007.

Donat is also a producer, and he received the Mecca Award in 2004 for his film The Drawer Boy.
