Richard William Burgi (born July 30, 1958) is an American film and television actor best known for his role in Det.

Early life

Burgi was born in Montclair, New Jersey, in the suburbs. His family was involved in the community theatre. Chuck Burgi, his brother, is a well-known rock drummer who has most recently appeared with Billy Joel. Burgi travelled through the United States and Europe after high school, working odd jobs.

Personal life

On November 25, 1995, Burgi married Lori Kahn. Jack, born December 8, 1996, and Samuel, born August 15, 2000. In February 2012, Burgi married Liliana Lopez.

Career

Burgi began his career in New York, which culminated in regular appearances on the Manhattan-based daytime soap operas One Life to Live, Another World, and As the World Turns. After heading to Los Angeles, he appeared on Days of Our Lives, another soap opera. He appeared on numerous television shows, as well as appearing in Chameleons, a TV film from 1989. He appeared on Viper, and landed his first lead role in the 1994 television series One West Waikiki.

Burgi was the lead in the film The Sentinel. The show lasted for three seasons; its cancellation left central plot points unanswered, which resulted in a lucrative fan campaign for additional episodes to end the tale. Burgi went on to appear on The District, 24 and Judging Amy, as well as bits in other television series and films, including Matlock. Burgi appeared in the 1998 made-for-TV version of I Married a Monster as Nicholas Farrell (the monster).

Karl Mayer, Susan Mayer's ex-husband and father to Julie, was one of Burgi's most popular roles on Desperate Housewives. Burgi starred as Karl for many seasons. In 2004, he appeared in Cellular, a sequel to Fun with Dick and Jane, and In Her Shoesas Toni Collette's love interest in 2005. Burgi appeared in Hostel: Part II in 2007. In 2009, he appeared as the police officer in Nip/Tuck's Friday the 13thand was a fashionable doctor.

Burgi appeared in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2010. Burgi appeared on TV Land's Hot in Cleveland in 2011. In 2011, it was announced that he would play Karl Parker in My Family USA, which premiered on September 26, 2011. Burgi landed a new role as Clyde Decker, a government conspiracy that threatens Chuck's title character. Burgi appeared as Brooke Davis' father in season 9 of One Tree Hill in 2011. In 2012, he appeared in "Christmas Twister" as TV Reporter 1, in which his character was killed after attempting to detach a low flying shipping container. Burgi appeared on Lifetime's Devious Maids as a brother, uncle, and love interest, Henri.

Burgi appeared in the ABC daytime soap opera GM General Hospital from 2015 to 2016.

Burgi was cast in the recurring role of Ashland Locke on CBS' daytime soap opera, The Young and the Restless, in 2021, according to Soap Opera Digest. Burgi was suspended from Y&R in 2022 for breaching the show's COVID-19 code, and his role on the program was recast with former Guiding Light actor Robert Newman.
