Career

Richa continued to pursue proper education in Indian classical and light music under Pandit Aaskaran Sharma's tutelage. Richa added ghazals, film songs, Punjabi, and Rajasthani folk songs to her repertoire, thus extending her message to a wider audience in a variety of genres.

Although music was at its high point in Richa's life, academic training had to be sacrificed and without a hope of making it big in the music world, Richa landed in Mumbai in 1994. She sang of cover versions and bhajans to make sure she had her bread and butter while simultaneously fighting in Bollywood. Salma Pe Dil Aa Gaya, Sawan Kumar's 1996 debut in Bollywood, and a number of films later until the big hit came in in the form of Taal, where she performed for A.R. Rahman.

Zubeidaa, Saathiya, was the first in a series of hits, followed by a storm.
