Ricardo Maduro Life

Ricardo Rodolfo Maduro Joest (born 20 April 1946 in Panama) is a former President of Honduras and chairman of the Central Bank of Honduras.

Maduro graduated from The Lawrenceville School (where he was awarded the Lawrenceville Medal, Lawrenceville's highest award to alumni) and later Stanford University.

He was President between 27 January 2002, and 27 January 2006, representing the National Party of Honduras (PNH).

Ricardo Maduro is a member of the Levy-Maduro family whose roots go through Portugal, the Netherlands and the Netherlands Antilles.

Life and career

Ricardo Ernesto, Maduro's first marriage to Miriam Andréu, produced three daughters and a son, Ricardo Ernesto, who was kidnapped at age 25 in 1997. Rigo Ernesto's body was discovered two days later. Maduro's death compelled him to run for president and then be elected as a presidential candidate in spite of a constitutional prohibition prohibiting those not born in Honduras from running for office. This constitutional ban caused a lot of controversy before the 2001 elections. He was eventually allowed to stand after being chosen PNH nominee. (maras) : In his campaign, he promised to combat crime and the Mara Salvatrucha family. He immediately brought troops out onto the streets of the larger cities to accompany the local police. The PNH-controlled National Congress passed legislation making illicit association a felony, which has resulted in the transfer of hundreds of gang members into prison.

Maduro married Spanish Agua Navarro, who was in contact with the Spanish Embassy in Honduras, in October 2002. Maduro and Oca formally filed for divorce within a week after he left office. She later moved to Nicaragua with her adopted children to head a non-profit group dedicated to children. Maduro stayed in Tegucigalpa. Maduro's eldest son is a United States citizen and lives in the United States.

The plane Maduro, which was traveling in and out of Tela's shore, has crashed into the Caribbean Sea on May 1st, 2005. Maduro, his son Lorena, and the pilot were not seriously wounded, according to reports, and local residents rescued him. He was admitted to a hospital in Comaya to recuperate.

Maduro presided over a new series of presidential and general elections on November 27, 2005. Manuel Zelaya, the Liberal Party of Honduras (PLH) and its candidate. On January 27, 2006, Zelaya succeeded Maduro.

Maduro is the President of Inversiones la Paz, Tegucigalpa, and he is active in the education group he founded in honor of his son, the Fundacion de la Ecrituracion Ricardo Ernesto Maduro Andreu, FEREMA. The group is designed to provide an education to lower income kindergarten students. Maduro believes that kindergarten is a vital part of a child's education in order to be able to succeed academically.
