Regine Velasquez Life

Regina Encarnacion Ansong Velasquez-Alcasid (born April 22, 1970) is a Filipino singer, actress, and record producer.

She gained renown in both the 1984 Ang Bagong Kampeon and the 1989 Asia-Pacific Song Contest, representing the Philippines in the former.

Velasquez came to fame with the introduction of "Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang" from her self-titled debut album in 1987.

The album was generally well-received, and it released two more singles, "Urong Sulong" and "Isang Lahi," which established her as a financially viable Filipino pop artist. Velasquez-Alcasid signed a recording deal with Polygram Records in 1994 and released Listen Without Prejudice, her first appearance as an up-and-coming artist in the Southeast and East Asian region.

It was her best-selling record in the area to date, and it was "In Love With You" that became her most popular 1990s single.

MTV Asia's accompanying music video was dubbed Video of the Decade.

Velasquez left Polygram in 1997 after citing a lack of creative control over her music and public image, and a record contract with VIVA Records the following year.

As the executive producer of R2K (1999), she was given complete conceptual and creative control.

The album was released as the best-selling album by a female artist in the Philippines, as well as the best-selling album by a local artist in 1999 and 2000. Velasquez delves into film with a lead role in Needed Perfect Mother (1996).

She continued to appear in female lead roles in romantic comedy films, including Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw (2000) and Pangako Ikaw Lang (2001), with the latter being the highest-grossing Filipino film in 2001.

She has also excelled on television with the series Maala Mo Kaya (2002), Forever In My Heart (2004), Diva (2010), and Poor Seorita (2016).

In the first of these, she appeared as a physically disabled woman in a featured episode, earning her a Star Award for Best Actress, while the other three were lead roles in prime time television shows. Velasquez has sold more than 8.5 million dollars nationally during her career.

She is the country's top-selling artist of all time, with seven million certified albums being sold nationally and a further 1.5 million in Southeast Asia, according to the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI).

Vol. 2: Covers.

1 (2004) was her eighth album with sales in excess of 200,000 copies, more than any other solo artist in the Philippines.

Velasquez has received two Asian Television Awards, two MTV Asia Awards, 21 Awit Awards, 21 Box Office Entertainment Awards, 13 Aliw Awards, and nine Star Awards for Music, and has been cited with inspiring a generation of Filipino singers.

She is known for her vocal range, agility, and use of the belting technique, which she describes as "Asia's songbird."

Early life

Regina Encarnacion Ansong Velasquez was born in Tondo, Philippines, on April 22, 1970, to Teresita (née Ansong) and Gerardo Velasquez. She has three sisters, including Cácai, Diane, and Deca, as well as Jojo, her brother. Velasquez's family relocated to Hinundayan, Southern Leyte, where she spent the first years of her life. She would listen to her mother play guitar and piano while her father performed, and "Mr. DJ" was one of Sharon Cuneta's "Mr. DJ" was one of the first songs she learned.

Velasquez began performing at the age of six, and she and her father underwent intensive vocal training, drowned her neck-deep in the sea, and had her go through vocal performances. She attributes this unorthodox technique for enhancing her core and stomach muscles as well as increasing her lung capacity. Velasquez came in third place in her first singing competition on Betty Mendez Livioco's The Tita Betty's Children's Show, placing third in her first singing competition.

Velasquez's family immigrated to Balagtas, Bulacan, where she attended St. Lawrence Academy and competed for her school in the annual Bulacan Private Schools Association's singing competition. Velasquez auditioned for the reality television series Ang Bagong Kampeon, at fourteen years old.
