Rashad Jennings Career

High school career

Jennings started his high school years at Jefferson Forest High School in his hometown, Forest, Virginia. He didn't play in a game until his junior year, which was his fifth string back. "270 lb. lb" is a self-described term used to describe a self-described "270 lb. After the first four running backs behind him on the depth chart fell sick and after his coach tried to play a wide receiver at running back, Jennings finally played. On his first handoff, he ran the ball in for a 30-yard touchdown. Jennings was approached by a University of Tennessee scout who wanted to see him running back after a 40-yard touchdown and two more on defense. After enquiry into his grades and discovering that Jennings had a 0.6 GPA, the scout replied, "You have talent... Get your grades right."

Rashad attended Lynchburg Christian Academy after being encouraged. The year before, his older brothers began teaching at the academy. Since Rashad was unable to afford tuition, both brothers used their coaching stipends to help pay the tuition. Since having to repeat his junior year, he will start to shed some weight and get to learning at LCA. He was a two-time All-VISAA Division II pick in his junior and senior seasons, totaling 3,287 yards and 56 touchdowns, including 1,978 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns as a senior, as well as lettering twice in basketball.

College career

Jennings started his college career in 2005, becoming the fourth genuine freshman to attend this program. However, Jennings moved to Division I-FCS Liberty in spring 2006 to be closer to his family. Despite being suspended for the first two games of the 2007 season due to an internal hazard, Jennings set a Big South Conference record of 3,633 yards, 42 touchdowns, and averaged 5.7 yards per carry.

The Liberty Flames renamed him on September 26, 2020, the first of the Liberty Flames.

Professional career

Jennings was drafted by Jacksonville in the seventh round (250th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft after being coached by the Jacksonville Jaguars' staff during the 2009 Senior Bowl. In Week 9, he scored his first touchdown in his career against the Kansas City Chiefs, rushing for 28 yards. Jennings' 2011 season was cut short by injuries after suffering a concussion in the Jaguars' first preseason game and his knee injury two weeks later, putting him in in injured reserve for the first time before the regular season began.

Jennings was named as the starting running back for the team's 2012 regular season opener against the Minnesota Vikings due to a player holdout by starter Maurice Jones-Drew. Jones-Drew returned to the starting lineup the following week, but Jennings resisted his role as a back-up until a shoulder injury on December 24, 2012, which put him on injured reserve for the second year in a row.

The Oakland Raiders drafted Jennings on April 11, 2013. Jennings joined upstart Darren McFadden in the 2013 season. McFadden spent a considerable portion of the season on the sidelines due to injuries, prompting Jennings to start eight games in his place. In Week 11 against the Houston Texans, Jennings, a career backup, met his hopes as a starter and saw his best rushing game of the season, with a touchdown and 22 yards (6.8 ypc) on an 80-yard rush. Jennings had 733 passing yards on 163 attempts and six touchdowns to end the season.

Jennings agreed to a four-year, $14 million contract, with the New York Giants as a guarantee on March 12, 2014. Jennings stepped in as the starter, playing 9 games out of the 11 he played. Jennings passed for 639 yards on 167 attempts and scored four rushing touchdowns.

Jennings played in all 16 games in 2015 and set career records in carries, rushing yards, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. Jennings ran 863 yards on 195 passes, as well as 296 yards and one receiving touchdown on 29 attempts. Jennings played his best football in both carries and yards in each of his last four games, leading to his best football in both carries and yards in each of his last four games.

Jennings played in 13 games in 2016, his lowest number since 2013, and he had scored three touchdowns on 181 carries. In 2016, he had 35 receptions for 201 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.

The Giants released Jennings on February 13, 2017.

Jennings resigned from football on December 8, 2017.

Jennings would be a mentor for the Fan Controlled Football Kingpens in early 2022. Jennings will return to football with the Fan Controlled Football Kingpens on May 21, 2022.
