Ram Charan Career

Acting career

Charan made his film debut in Chirutha, which was directed by Puri Jagannadh and ran for 50 days in 178 independent movie theaters and 15 other flipped theaters. Charan, an ex-convict attempting to murder his father's killer, was played by the actor. "Ram Charan is very promising," Rediff.com said of his performance. Dance and combat seem to be a hit. He is quite graceful in terms of dance numbers. He also refuses to make any oblique reference to his actor father by way of talk or adopting any particular tone or design. He received the Filmfare Best South Debutant Award and the Nandi Special Jury Award for his role in the film.

Charan established himself as one of the top contemporary actors in Tollywood following the release of his second film, Magadheera. S. S. Rajamouli directed the film, and Charan's performance was highly praised. "Ram Charan" returns as a vain soldier and breathes life into the larger-than-life role with ease, according to the Times of India. He brings his horse-riding and dancing skills to a new degree. "Charan has come up with a mature role and he has done a good job with the film," IndiaGlitz reported. Both his characters were done well, and he was reminded of his father at several points." Magadheera earned over $120 crore worldwide and held the record of being the highest-grossing Telugu film until 2013 before being defeated by Attarintiki Daredi. The film received six Filmfare Awards, including two for Best Actor – Telugu and Nandi Special Jury Award for Charan.

Charan appeared in Bommarillu Bhaskar's urban romantic film Orange in 2010, as Ram, a NRI in Australia. Though the film didn't do well at the box office, observers applauded Charan's plotline and performance. Charan did not attempt to stick to fame, and he was reluctant to repeat the actor's mistakes. It became a cult film over the years and attracted adoration from the audience. Alekhya Devarakonda compared his character to Howard Roark of 1943's The Fountainhead in an article for Film Companion. He appeared in Racha (2012), directed by Sampath Nandi, after a year absence from the screen. He played "Betting Raj," a gambler. On July 13, 2012, the film completed a 100-day run in 38 centers around Andhra Pradesh. Racha's final share for its distributors was 45 crore (US$5.6 million). His appearance in the film earned him two nominations, including Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu and SIIMA Award for Best Actor (Telugu). "Both, actor Ram Charan, and his director Sampath Nandi play a safe game by following the same pattern as earlier mass-masala films," Sify said. Radhika Rajamani of Rediff sluggishly criticized the film's plot but lauded Charan's performance in action sequences and dance moves. "He appears more Chiru-ness in the future than he ever did," IndiaGlitz wrote; whether it be his baritone or demeanor, he is a megastar in effect. He may have been much better," aided by a solid script. The film was released on 5 April 2012 and was declared a commercial success.

Charan had two films released in 2013. In Naayak, directed by V. V. Vinayak, in which he appeared in both directions again after Magadheera, he made his first appearance. "Ram Charan did a good job, but there was no difference between the two characters," Karthik Pasupulate wrote to The Times of India. It attracted mixed critical acclaim and became a commercial hit. The film received two nominations, including Best Actor (Telugu) and a Best Actor award at TSR – National Film Awards, as well as a Best Actor award. He made his Hindi cinema debut alongside Priyanka Chopra in the Telugu-Hindi bilingual film Zanjeer, a remake of the 1973 film of the same name. Vijay Khanna, a cop who vehemently condemns his parents' murderer, was played by him. Charan made his debut as a playback artist on the album "Mumbai Ke Hero," composed by Chirrantan Bhatt from the Telugu version of Zanjeer. "An unforgivably bad remake," Rediff referred to it. Rajeev Masand, a film critic, sluggishly wrote that "comes off as stiff as a wax statue in his debut in Bollywood, with no emotion, forego brooding. The film became a box-office bomb amid a lot of hopes. Charan decided not to appear in a Hindi film again after the film's box-office success and critics' comments.

Charan was released twice in the following year. Yevadu (2014), directed by Vamshi Paidipally, is the third film in which he starred in both roles, one that has undergone a facial reconstruction and the other is the object of underworld gangs due to the mistaken identity. Because of the film's violent action sequences, the Central Board of Film Certification gave it a 'A' rating. After Thoofan tanked at the box office, the Bangalore Mirror reported that "For Ram Charan, Yevadu is absolutely vital to establish his position." His character has two shades, and he does his best to bring variations. He dances like there is no tomorrow, and the choreography is a joy to watch." Charan's performance has been compared to his earlier films – Nayak and Thoofan, and he has said that he has done a good job here. Charan did better in the dance sequences than he did in the role, according to Y. Sunita Chowdhary of The Hindu.

Govindudu Andarivadele, his second outing of the same year, was the family drama. He appears in the film as a NRI from the United Kingdom. Critics largely approved the film, and it grossed over 40 crore (equivalent to 54 crore or US$6.8 million at the box office in 2020). After the film Magadheera, Sangeetha Devi Dundoo said he had his best performance. Suresh Kaviyarani of the Deccan Chronicle lauded him as "good" and "subtle," according to his colleague.

In Bruce Lee: The Fighter (2015), he was both an IB officer and a stunt performer. Charan rented Samir Jaura, a celebrity trainer, to get fit for this film in mid-July 2014 after an extensive training course designed by Jaura lasting for four months, as well as a strict diet. In mid-May 2015, he started learning Karate for his role. Bruce Lee had a tattoo on his hand, which was appropriate for the role. On its first day, the film earned more than 30,000 crore, the most expensive opening day collection of Ram Charan's film ever. The film didn't do well at the box office and was labeled as a box-office bomb with a budget of 60 crore. Sangeetha Devi Dundoo of The Hindu condemned Charan's appearance and wrote that "Charan dances like a dream, as always" and that she is showing steady improvement as an actor. However, he does need a scheme that will not neglect the massive fan base in the garb of masala."

He appeared in the action thriller film Dhruva (2016), where he appeared as an IPS officer. The film follows the lives of Dhruva, an IPS officer who intends to arrest Siddharth Abhimanyu (played by Arvind Swami), a wealthy scientist who seeks to defame illicit medical and unlawful activities for profit. The film, a remake of the Tamil film Thani Oruvan (2015), received rave reviews and is a commercial hit at the box office, grossing over 85 million (US$11 million) in 21 days. "From his appearance to his fights, he makes you hark back to Magadheera." "Ram Charan seems to be his fittest," the Times of India's Srividya Palaparthi said. Ram Charan, an actor, does well in all the scenes that demanded a lot of emotion. He will not disappoint his followers in the scenes where he had to be promoted as the hero. In the film, he did his own stunts. Charan appeared in "Ammadu Let's Do Kummudu" from the film Khaidi No. 150 (2017), alongside his father Chiranjeevi, Devi Sri Prasad, and Kajal Aggarwal. After Shankar Dada Zindabad (2007), the film is a return of his father to the mainstream cinema.

He appeared in Sukumar's stagedrama Rangasthalam in 2018. Chitti Babu, a semi-deaf man who received acclaim for his work as a pilot. Several commentators praised his career as "best" on record. The film is a huge commercial success, with it becoming the highest-grossing Telugu film of the year with a gross collection of over 216 crores. The film, which takes place in the Konaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, explores a variety of subjects such as caste-based honour killings, brahminical patriarchy, and good versus evil. The film appeared on many year-end best films' charts. "There will be a career-best for all actors at some point of time," Nagarjuna Rao of Gulf News said. Subhash K. Jha of The Free Press Journal said Teja transforms in front of our eyes, "It's almost like watching a magic show in which the entire cast of the actor undergoes a sea change as we gawk in open-mouthed wonder." Ram Charan has received numerous awards, including the Best Actor Award in Telugu and Best Actor – Telugu. Charan's appearances in the films Chirutha (2007), Magadheera (2009), Orange (2010), Dhruva (2016), and Rangasthalam (2018) were included in S Behara's article 5 Best Performances of Ram Charan Teja, S Behara of The Indian Express. Charan would appear alongside N. T. Rao Jr. in his next film in March 2018.

He appeared in Vinaya Vidheya Rama (2019), directed by Boyapati Srinu, alongside Kiara Advani and Vivek Oberoi. The film opened to critical reviews, with criticism for the wrong action scenes and screenplay, causing the film to fail at the box office. "Whatever made Ram Charan sign up for this tumultuous film after Rangasthalam?" Sangeetha Devi wrote for The Hindu. "A troll is a scholar who writes for a few words." Charan has to start from scratch due to the film, according to India Today's Janani K. Charan expressed an open apology to his supporters as a result of the film's demise at the box office.

He was first reported in March that he was playing Alluri Sitarama Raju in S. Rajamouli's directorial RRR (2022), co-starring N. T. Rama Rao Jr. In Acharya (2022) directed by Koratala Siva, he appeared alongside his father Chiranjeevi, who also co-produced with Matinee Entertainment. Charan will be playing the role in June 2020, according to Chiranjeevi. He directed a film with director S. Shankar in February 2021, tentatively titled RC15 under the Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations. The filming is expected to be over by the end of December.
