Rafael Amaya (soccer) is a soccer player and mentor. José Rafael Amaya Nez (born 28 February 1977) is a Mexican actor who appeared in Hermosillo, Mexico.

In the Telemundo series El Seor de los Cielos, he is best known for his character Aurelio Casillas.

Personal life

Amaya was in a dating relationship with actress Ana Layevska, whom he met in 2006 while working on the telenovela Las dos caras de Ana. In 2007, they made their relationship official, and both actors promised to get married, but Amaya ended his friendship with Layevska in 2010. In 2010, after putting an end to Layevska, he announced his friendship with actress Angélica Celaya, who appeared in the telenovela Alguien te mira. They became engaged in 2014 but decided against marriage in 2015.

Since leaving his short musical career, he appeared on TVnovela en la playa, where he appeared Romualdo; after being spotted in the role, he received offers for other productions. In Sin pecado concebido, he appeared in the role of Cástulo in 2001. He was first recognized as a bonafide actor in the telenovela Salomé, where he plays José Julián, one of Salomé's three sons, earning him two honors, one for the El Heraldo de México and another for the TVyNovelas Awards. He is invited to appear in the cast of Las vs. del amor in the same year. He regains a leading role in the telenovela Amar otra vez with Irán Castillo and Valentino Lans in 2003. Desnudos, his debut film, debuted in 2004, in which he shares credits with Karyme Lozano and Isabel Madow. In 2006, he and his ex-partner Ana Layevska fly to Miami, United States, to film Las dos caras de Ana. In the controversial film As del precipiceo, he reprises co-starring Ana de la Reguera and Gabriela Platas. He began filming 24 cuadros de terror, where for the first time in his career, he played a serial killer. Plutarco Haza and Silvia Navarro directed Amor letra por letra, a romantic comedy film that premiered in August of that year. He appeared in the film Me gustas t, a film that pays tribute to late comedian Germán Valdés, as well as actress Carmen Salinas and Luis Felipe Tovar. Since being involved in the series Mujeres asesinas and Sexo y otros securios, the year proved to be a tumultuous one with a lot of activity. He began filming North, a drama about immigrants who were robbed of their organs and then trafficked, at the end of the year. He appeared in Enrique Iglesias' "Lloro Por Ti" video clip.

He stepped further into film in 2009. Julián Garca Correa, a psychiatrist with a mental disorder, was a frantic presence in 2010's Telemundo Alguien te mira, where a doctor with a mental disorder was playing. This was the first time Amaya appeared in a telenovela. He appeared in La Reina del Sur for a brief period of time in 2011 and was the point on which Aurelio Casillo's character and the organization on which the role of Aurelio Casillo was based (both protagonists were pilots who used to transport drugs for Mexico's most popular cartels). He returned to Spain in the year 2000 to film La piel azul, two series Hospital Central and Doctor Mateo.

He was out of the acting world for a year and a half after returning from Spain. He appeared in the film The Meddling Mama, which was released in 2012 and in which he appeared Pablo, and in 2013. He was chosen by Telemundo to star Aurelio Casillas, a well-known drug dealer in the popular film El Seor de los Cielos, which is based on Amado Carrillo Fuentes' life. At the 2014 Premios Tu Mundo, he was selected Favorite Lead Actor for his role. He has won the award three times in all Premios Tu Mundo awards galas, since first taking up this career-making role. He appeared in the short film Kiss of Vengeance in 2014 and in the film based on the life of actor Cantinflas. Aurelio Casillas appeared in two episodes of the anime Seora Acero. He appeared in Oro y polvo, his first lead role in a film.

In 2016, he appeared in the American film Queen of the South, which was also a remake of the telenovela La Reina del Sur, where he also appeared in Aurelio Casillas. He appeared in the El Chema spin-off of the series El Seor de los Cielos in December of the same year.

Jean-Claude Van Damme is expected to appear in Silent Kill, the forthcoming motion picture. Deadline reports that Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment's film will be shopped at the American Film Market this week. Four mercenaries discover a mysterious treasure in the Congo that they bury to retrieve at a later date in three years. The motion picture, which is written and directed by Anthony Hickox, is based on a fictional storyline.
