Poli Plamenova Genova (born 10 February 1987) is a Bulgarian singer, composer, actress, and television presenter.

Genova began her career in 1995 as a member of the Bulgarian children's ensemble Bon-Bon. Genova also performed in Bulgaria with the song "Na inat," which did not qualify for the final.

She returned to Eurovision five years later in 2016, for the second time representing Bulgaria, with the song "If Love Was a Crime."

For the first time since 2007, she defeated Bulgaria in the final, behind her predecessor Kristian Kostov's second highest finish ever. Genova has also appeared on The Voice of Bulgaria and X Factor Bulgaria as a mentor, and she has hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Life and career

Genova was born in Sofia on February 10, 1987. Genova began her singing career in 1991 and was the first member of Bulgaria's children's ensemble Bon-Bon in 1995. Genova performed the eponymous children's performance as a member of the group. Georgi Hristov, Yordanka Hristova, and Neli Rangelova were among Bulgarian singers featured on Bon-Bon, including Georgi Hristov, Yordanka Hristova and Neli Rangelova. At the Golden Orpheus Festival, she was given a special award by Bulgarian National Television for her duet with Rangelova. Bon-Bon appeared in the Slavianski Bazaar festival in Vitebsk in 1997. She left Bon-Bon in 2001.

Genova graduated from the Lyubomir Pipkov National School of Music, where she studied clarinet and later attended the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts. Genova was a part of the UNICEF charity initiative The Magnificent Six.

"One Lifetime Is Not Enough" was one of the finalists of Bulgaria's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009. The album came in second, behind Krassimir Avramov's "Illusion" and his album "Illusion."

With the song "Na inat," she returned to Bulgaria's national selection in 2011. She went on to win the competition and was granted the opportunity to represent Bulgaria in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. The song did not qualify for the final, placing 12th in the second semi-finals. Genova became a mentor on season one of X Factor Bulgaria following the Eurovision Song Contest. In 2013, she released the album 1, 2, 3.

Genova will host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Sofia on October 21, 2015.

With the song "If Love Was a Crime," Bulgaria's National Television Internal Television internally selected her to represent Bulgaria in the Eurovision Song Contest once more on February 19th. Theodosii Spassov, a Bulgarian jazz musician who plays kaval, contributed to the album, as well as composers Sebastian Arman, Boris Milanov, and Joacim "Twin" Persson. Many positive comments have been posted on Eurovision websites, such as Wiwibloggs. The song was performed live at the pre-Eurovision parties in Riga, Amsterdam, Tel Aviv, and London. Genova then went on to qualify for the final for the first Bulgarian entrant since Elitsa & Stoyan in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007, finishing fourth in the final, which was the highest finish ever for Bulgaria. Through Spotify, the track has hit 26 countries and five million times.

In Arena Armeec, one of Bulgaria's most renown indoor arenas, Genova put on a show for 12,000 people following Eurovision. At the BG Radio Music Awards 2016, she also performed "If Love Was a Crime" where she was rewarded with the coveted statuette for BG Ambassador of the Year. Genova appeared at the Clapham Grand Theatre in London on Friday, June 5th. Genova appeared with Greek singer Demy at the 2016 MAD Video Music Awards in Athens, where she competed with Greek singer Demy. The interval acts at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Malta were Genova and Destiny Chukunyere, the winner of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015. In 2017, she became a mentor on The Voice of Bulgaria's fourth season and stayed a part of the lineup in the fifth season. She is believed to be organizing her third Eurovision appearance.
