Philip Nathaniel Sin Goi Wang (born 22 January 1990) is a British Malaysian stand-up comedian who is also a member of the sketch comedy group Daphne and co-creator of their BBC Radio 4 comedy, Daphne Sounds Exciting.
Early life
Wang was born in Stoke-on-Trent to an English mother from Stoke and a Chinese-Malaysian father. His family returned to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, where his parents first met in 1982, just over a week after his birth. His mother, a qualified archaeologist, had joined the Voluntary Service Overseas in Malaysia. (VSO) Wang's maternal grandfather was from Derbyshire and became the owner of a tea estate in Assam, India, where his mother spent a portion of her childhood.
Wang grew up in Malaysia, where he was taught in Malay, Mandarin, and English. At Jerudong International School in Brunei, he took GCSEs. His family returned to the United Kingdom, Bath, Somerset, when he was 16 years old. He attended Kingswood School. He then studied engineering at King's College, Cambridge, where he served as president of the Cambridge Footlights.
Career
Wang received the 2010 Chortle Student Comedian of the Year Award and the 2011 Comedy Central Funniest Student Award. He served as president of Footlights at Cambridge University in 2012, where he obtained a four-year engineering degree. Wang has appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival since being a performer at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Wang appeared in The Rob Brydon Show, Comedy Up Late, About Tonight, It's Allright in the 70's, Matt Forde's, If I lie to You, Would I Lie to You, Does Countdown? He has appeared on the sitcom Top Coppers before. Wang won the competition in January 2018, hosted by Jimmy Carr, in which he defeated colleague and fellow comedian Ed Gamble;
Wang has appeared on two full length sitcoms, which are also available on his YouTube channel. Wang has also written for The Guardian.
Wang appeared in the podcast series Pappy's Flatshare Slamdown and Do the Right Thing in 2017.
