Early work
In 1978, Lewis began the band Girl with guitarist Gerry Laffy. They placed an advert in Melody Maker for a "perpetue guitar hero," and Phil Collen (current guitarist of Def Leppard) answered. mmer Dave Gaynor and bassist Mark Megary joined them shortly. Megary was replaced shortly after by Simon Laffy, Laffy's brother. In 1979, they signed a record deal with Don Arden's company Jet Records, which is their first album, Sheer Greed. Britt Ekland, Lewis's then girlfriend, was instrumental in helping Girl land their first contract. Pete Barnacle, Bryson Graham, and Pete Bonas were among the group's later members. In 1982, the band Wasted Youth released their second album, Wasted Youth. Phil Collen left the band in 1982 to join Def Leppard, and the band disbanded shortly thereafter. Killing Time, the band's third and final album, was released in 1997. It consisted of unused content from the first two albums as well as tracks that were not released for an album that never appeared.
Lewis later joined forces with guitarist Rudy Rivera, bassist Dave Birch, and drummer Paul Edwards to form the band New Torchos. A demo tape was released by the university.
Lewis left New Tormé to join Tormé's guitarist Bernie Tormé. They signed a contract with Zebra Records, and were released Back to Babylon in 1986 and Die Pretty, Die Young, 1987. They toured both albums with modest success, but they never quite managed to win over mainstream audiences.
