Philip Michael Lester (born 30 January 1987) is an English YouTuber and host.

AmazingPhil, with over 4 million viewers, and DanAndPhilGAMES are two of him most well-known YouTube channels.

On BBC Radio 1 from January 2013 to August 2014, Lester and his frequent collaborator Daniel Howell hosted Dan and Phil, a Sunday night entertainment program, and the pair were on the station's The Internet Takeover slot from September 2014 to April 2016. Lester appeared in The Sunday Times' list of the top influencers in the United Kingdom in 2019.

Early life

Lester was born in Rawtenstall, Lancashire, on January 30, 1987. Martyn is his older brother. He was a dog walker and car washer, worked at a surgical hospital and at WHSmith, and had been playing Tim in Faintheart before he made vlogs and radio broadcasts. He attended Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts with Honours in English Language and Linguistics in 2008 and a Master of Arts in Video Postproduction with Visual Effects in 2009, both from the University of York.

Personal life

Lester and Daniel Howell met on the Internet in 2009 and in person in October. They have been married since August 2011, first in Manchester before moving to London in July 2012. Howell admitted that the two couples have been romantically involved, but that they have yet to discuss their current love, saying, "I'm someone that wants to keep the private information of my personal life private." Phil is also Phil." Lester also tweeted about his own sexuality on the same day. Lester came out as gay in a video on his channel two and a half weeks later, although he had never expressed it in his personal life since university.

Lester's first YouTube video vlog titled "Phil's Video Blog" on his main YouTube channel, AmazingPhil, on March 27, 2006. Since then, he has released over 300 videos on his website, and as of September 20,2022, he has over 3.9 million followers and 659 million video views. On 6 July 2013, he reached 1 million YouTube followers, 3 million on 12 October 2015, and 4 million on March 17.

LessAmazingPhil, Lester's second channel, has more than 1 million subscribers and 26 million views as of September 2022. On this channel, he would occasionally air hour-long live shows, as well as YouNow livestreams, but has since used the channel to archive his more recent streams.

Lester appeared on RTÉ's Ireland-based cross-media exhibition ApartmentRed from 2009 to 2011.

Lester and Howell were among the first participants of the charity UNICEF in 2010.

Lester and Howell created a joint YouTube channel on the network My Damn Channel in 2011. The Super Amazing Project, which was titled The Super Amazing Project, featured the two of them debating and investigating paranormal occurrences. "Viewers Spooky Happenings" where the show's followers will be sent "scary" items for the video bloggers to react to, as well as "In The News This Week," where the duo recapped recent light-hearted news items and viral videos. Lester and Howell had announced in October 2014 that they did not continue working on The Super Amazing Project as a result of that month in order to concentrate on their Radio 1 show. The Super Amazing Project will be hosted by new presenters Alastair James Murder and Victoria Atkin, who were discovered by channel owners My Damn Channel, Lester and Howell.

Howell and Lester produced the first video on their new gaming YouTube channel, DanAndPhilGAMES, on September 12, 2014. The channel attracted 1 million viewers on March 8, 2015. It was also the most popular channel on YouTube. DanAndPhilGAME has over 3.1 million subscribers. The Sims 4 series, Spooky Week, and Gamingmas are among the popular recurring and annual series on this channel. The channel is on indefinite suspension as of the most recent upload in December 2018.

Lester and Howell's joke, DanAndPhilCRAFTS, on April Fools Day, launched a spin-off crafts-based channel. It featured a single video of them making square snowflakes out of paper, with an amateur editing style and humour throughout. In one week, it had over 154,000 viewers and 500,000 in total video views. In 2016, and 2017, additional videos were released on April Fool's Day.

Lester appeared on The Weakest Link in 2007, making it to the final round. Tim was also starring in the 2008 film Faintheart and appeared in a Confused.com advertisement later that year. He had around 27,000 followers at the time of launching the campaign.

On Channel 4 News in October 2012, Lester was interviewed with other internet entertainers about YouTube's increasing success as a hobby.

Lester and Howell appeared on BAFTA's award-winning CBBC TV show on Friday, a BAFTA award-winning CBBC TV show.

Howell and Lester hosted the British Academy livestream from 2014 to 2016, as well as making backstage videos for their channel.

Lester and Howell appeared in the UK cinema release of Walt Disney Animation Studios' Big Hero 6 as Technician 1 and 2. This version, on the other hand, is not included in the UK home release. Lester and Howell, the BBC's national radio station, announced in November 2012 that from January 2013 to present, Lester and Howell will host the Sunday night entertainment and request show for national UK radio station BBC Radio 1. The pair had briefly worked with Radio 1 before launching videos for the station's YouTube channel and airing two Christmas shows.

The show was supposed to be an interactive, audio-visual broadcast involving music clips created by viewers, physical challenges presented by Howell and Lester, and listener suggestions. It was streamed live on the BBC Radio 1 website and globally accessible.

It was announced in August 2014 that the last Dan and Phil show would be broadcast on August 24th, with the pair switching to a new show on Monday nights starring other famous video bloggers. This latest series, The Internet Takeover, starred Lester and Howell live on the first Monday of every month before coming to an end in April 2016.

Lester, Lester's brother, and Howell co-founded IRL Digital, Ltd., a company that manufactures and sells the products of various other media celebrities, beginning with Dan and Phil Shop and expanding out from there.

Howell and Lester launched The 7 Second Challenge, based on a YouTube contest launched by Lester in a 2014 video on his main channel, based on a YouTube challenge. Lester and Howell announced on March 26, 2015, not on fire, in a trailer on Howell's channel, that they had co-written a book called The Amazing Book Is Not Fire (TABINOF). It was published in the United Kingdom on October 8th, 2015, and around the world on October 15th, 2015, published by Ebury Press and Random House Children's Books. In the first week of its debut, the book topped the General Hardbacks Sunday Times Bestsellers list, selling 26,745 copies in the United Kingdom. It also became a top New York Times Bestseller in the young adult hardcover category.

The pair announced their stage show The Amazing Tour Is Not On Fire (TATINOF), which toured around the UK during October and November 2015, before ending with a performance at the London Palladium. They performed original song "The Internet Is Here," which they later released as a charity single for Stand Up To Cancer, gaining them a gold record album for the sales of the song.

They toured the United States and Toronto in 2016, beginning with a show in Orlando, Florida, on April 22nd and ending on June 24th with a show at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. It was the first tour by YouTube creators to be a success. They toured Australia in August 2016, beginning in Perth and ending in Brisbane, and ending in Brisbane, and finishing with a European leg, performing in Stockholm, Berlin, and Dublin.

The Amazing Tour Is Not on Fire was released in October 2016 as a YouTube Red Original film by the same name as a documentary, Dan and Phil's Story of TATINOF. They are the first British YouTube creators to post video on YouTube.

Dan and Phil Go Outside, a photography book, was released in November 2016, which included a personal collection of candid shots and insightful stories from the tour's debut. The book became a top-selling New York Times bestseller.

Lester and Howell's second tour, Interactive Introverts, took place in November 2017, which was their second tour, after a world tour in 2018. The tour ran from April to September, with 80 shows in 18 countries, including but not limited to Poland, Russia, New Zealand, Finland, and the Netherlands, making it one of the best YouTuber tours of all time.

Lester and Howell partnered with BBC Studios' TalentWorks to produce a film of Interactive Introverts with bonus features such as behind the scenes video and director's commentary, which was also available on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital download in December 2018.
