Pharrell Lanscilo Williams (born April 5, 1973) is an American singer, rapper, songwriter, record producer, fashion designer, and entrepreneur.
In 1994, Williams and Chad Hugo formed The Neptunes, a record-production team that also produces hip hop and R&B music.

Early life
Pharrell Lanscilo Williams was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on April 5, 1973, the eldest of three sons of teacher Carolyn and handyman Pharoah Williams. His ancestry in Virginia and North Carolina goes back many generations. In 1831, one of his ancestors migrated from the United States to Liberia, causing several relatives to emigrate from the United States to Liberia. Williams performed drums and Hugo performed tenor saxophone in a seventh-grade summer band camp. They attended Princess Anne High School, where they were in the school band. Williams graduated from high school in 1991 and spent two years at Northwestern University before losing out.
Personal life
On October 12, 2013, Williams married Helen Lasichanh, his longtime collaborator, model and fashion designer. The couple have four children together: son Rocket (born in 2008) and triplets (born in January 2017). In honor of their son Rocket, the Despicable Me song "Rocket's Theme" was written.
Williams was named "Best Dressed Man in the World" by Esquire in 2005. He is a huge fan of Star Trek's science fiction film, as shown by his regular use of the Vulcan salute to identify his brand name, Star Trak. Williams is a skateboarder and has a half-pipe in his house. In 2011, Williams declared that he is constructing a $35 million after-school center in his home town, Virginia Beach. Williams bought a home in Los Angeles's Laurel Canyon neighborhood in 2015. Williams also provided internships to 144 students at Promise Academy in Harlem, New York City, in 2019.

Career
Williams (with Hugo, Timbaland, and Magoo) formed Surrounded by Idots in the early 1990s; the band disbanded before making any music. With colleagues Shay Haley and Mike Etheridge, he formed the Neptunes, a four-piece "R&B-type" group. They were discovered by producer Teddy Riley, whose studio was next to the school, at a high school talent showcase. The group signed with Riley after graduating.
Riley was a writer who wrote Riley's review of Wreckx-N-Effect's 1992 hit "Rump Shaker." The Neptunes, Williams, and Hugo made Noguaga's 1998 hit "Superthug" adrift. In the late 1990s, the Neptunes began working with rap duo Clipse (rappers Pusha T and Malice) and appeared on Clipse's album Exclusive Audio Footage, which was not released.
The Neptunes produced Mystikal's single "Shake Ya Ass" (2000), Jay-Z's "I Just Want to Love U (Give It 2 Me)" and Nelly's single "Hot in Herre) (2002). The Neptunes released Gwen Stefani's single "Hollaback Girl," which debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 82 on April 2, 2005, and topped the charts within six weeks of its debut.
