Peter De Vries (February 27, 1910-1993), an American editor and novelist known for his satiric humour, was born in Norfolk, New York.

Personal life
In 1943, Peter De Vries met his future wife, poet, and author Katinka Loeser, who received an award from Poetry magazine. In 1948, the couple immigrated to Westport, Connecticut. They were the parents of four children: sons Derek and Jon, daughters Jan and Emily. Emily died in 1960 at the age of ten after a two-year battle with leukemia. This experience inspired his 1961 piece, The Blood of the Lamb. Jon, his son, has appeared in films including American Gangster; Sarah, Plain and Tall; and Skylark; as well as episodic television in shows including Blue Bloods, Boardwalk Empire; and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Jan, his daughter, an author, editor, and psychic advisor whose specialties and careers included everything from homeopathic medicine to shamanism, the occult, and Native American lore, died in 1997 at the age of 52.
Katinka De Vries died in 1991. Peter De Vries died in a Norwalk, Connecticut hospital at the age of 83 on September 28, 1993. In Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport, Conn, both he and his daughter are buried.
