Peter William Krause (born August 12, 1965) is an American television and film actor.
He has appeared in several television series, including Casey McCall on Sports Night (1998–2005), Nicholas George on Parents (2005–2017), and Bobby Nash on 9-1-1 (2018–2017). Krause was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and seven Screen Actor Guild Awards for his role on Six Feet Under, as well as several other Drama Series Awards.
Early life
Krause was born in Alexandria, Minnesota, on August 12, 1965. Wanda Marie Krause (née Johnson) and William Popham "Bill" Krause, both teachers in Minnesota, were teachers. He was born in Roseville, Minnesota, a suburb of St. Paul, and has two siblings, Amy and Michael.
Krause was involved in track and field and gymnastics as a child and attended Alexander Ramsey High School in Roseville, Minnesota, Minnesota. He graduated from high school in 1983 and spent his time at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter before discovering acting in his junior year and switching to English Literature. In college, he appeared in plays including Paul Sills' Story Theatre, Caryl Churchill's Cloud 9, and Harold Pinter's The Dumb Waiter, which culminated in his complete dedication to acting. Krause graduated from college in 1987 and obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree in acting from New York University's Graduate Acting Program. He played as a bartender at Broadway's Palace Theatre with Aaron Sorkin, who later created and executive produced Sports Night, which starred Krause.
He appeared in Macbeth, Uncle Vanya, and Arms and the Man while attending Tisch School of the Arts. Krause departed to Los Angeles shortly after gaining a regular role on Carol Burnett's sketch comedy collection Carol & Company.
Personal life
Roman King, Krause's son and his ex girlfriend Christine King, was born in 2001. Krause began a friendship with actress Lauren Graham in 2010. They first appeared in the sitcom Caroline in the City in 1995 and then became a couple while co-starring Parenthood. It was announced in June 2022 that the couple had ended their relationship in 2021 after 11 years together.
Career
Krause appeared on television programs including Seinfeld, Beverly Hills, 90210, and Ellen in the early 1990s. He appeared on Carol Burnett's sketch comedy series Carol & Company from 1990 to 1991. Krause appeared on her sitcom Cybill Shepherd's son-in-law Kevin from 1996 to 2004.
On ABC's comedy Sports Night, Krause also portrayed Casey McCall from 1998 to 2000. Despite receiving a lot of praise, the show was unable to find an audience and was cancelled after two seasons.
From 2001 to 2005, Krause appeared in HBO's drama series Six Feet Under. For his portrayal of funeral director Nate Fisher, he received seven award nominations (including three Emmy nominations).
In a revival of Arthur Miller's After the Fall, Krause appeared on Broadway in the summer of 2004.
