Early life

Ward grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and now lives in Los Angeles. Bettie (born 1947) is a painter who paints.

Ward was attracted to animation at an early age, inspired by his mother, who is also an animator and worked with animators. In the first grade, he began drawing flipbooks. Alec "The Logdog" Coates, his best friend, coproduced short comic books.

Ward met at CalArts, where he became acquainted with J. G. Quintel and Alex Hirsch. They worked on The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack together later. After watching one of his films at the annual CalArts animation screenings, Eric Homan, vice president of Frederator Studios, offered Ward a job at the studios. Pendleton Ward Career

Career

Ward released Bueno the Bear, a webcomic from 2002-2003. Later on, he discarded the comics because he found them "terrible." However, he keeps the site "buenothebear" for his website and handles Twitter's handle. Bueno the Bear was the central character of Ward's upcoming Frederator Studios film Barrista.

Ward continued to work on short animations for Frederator's Random! Cartoons were on display on the Nicktoons Network, which was the source of the Nicktoons Network. Several people who would later join him on the Adventure Time series included composer Casey James Basichis, Adam Muto, and Niki Yang, many of whom had attended the California Institute of the Arts alongside Pen. His two shorts were The Bravest Warriors and the Adventure Time animated short. The Adventure Time short was launched in 2006 and has since become a internet sensation in 2007, with over a million views by November of this year. Ward attempted Adventure Time to Nickelodeon but was turned down. Cartoon Network also took a long time before Cartoon Network decided to pick it up.

Ward was recruited as a writer and storyboard artist on Cartoon Network's first season. Flapjack was a storyboard-driven exhibition that encouraged the storyboard artists to write all of the dialogue and then draw all of the action based on an outline that had been given to them. Ward and Mike Roth (who became the show's supervising producer) and later Alex Hirsch, who has since gone on to create Gravity Falls and design Fish Hooks for Disney Channel, were both in pairs, and during his time on Flapjack. Since it was picked up as a sequence, Pen was inspired to approach Adventure Time in a similar way.

Frederator Studios produced Bravest Warriors and turned it into a web series for Cartoon Hangover's relaunch in 2012, but Ward has no involvement in the project. Phil Rynda, a senior Adventure Time lead designer, worked on the characters' reimaginings. The series premiered on Cartoon Hangover's YouTube channel in the fall of 2012, as well as a Boom comic book series of the same name. Studios.

In November, Ward unveiled a short animation in support of LA Game Space, a program that aims to create a games-focused exhibition space in Los Angeles. Ward revealed the production of Cheque Please, a short game with Bennett Foddy that was supposed to be included in Experimental Game Pack 01, which the company first announced in 2013.

Ward resigned from hosting Adventure Time sometime during the fifth season of Adventure Time, citing it as detrimental to his "quality of life." Ward wrote "I quit because it was driving me nuts" in the Rolling Stone magazine on October 2, 2014. However, he continued to work as one of the show's writers and storyboard artists until the end of season six, and he also served as an executive producer until the series's conclusion. In an interview with Indiewire ahead of season 7, Ward said that he had stopped writing episode outlines at the start of season 7 but that he nevertheless looked over them and gave input.

Ward was named as "Story Consultant" on the 5th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons in 2017, 'Tomb of Annihilation' in 2017.

Ward served as art director on Apple Arcade's Card of Darkness, an Apple Arcade exclusive game.

A trailer for The Midnight Gospel, an adult animated Netflix original show co-created by Ward and Duncan Trussell was released on March 16, 2020. "Clancy is a space-caster who uses a multiverse simulator to interview beings from other worlds," the plot reads. On April 20, 2020, eight episodes of the show were released on Netflix.

Ward was given a special thanks in the Double Fine-developed video game Psychonauts 2 in 2021. Ward has reportedly created an animatic that expressed an intention in the game's opening against a pregnant Raz, as seen in the game "Hollis' Hot Stuff" where players are expected to fire a pen at a sign that spells out "Ward."
