Pearl Mackie (born 29 May 1987) is a British actor, dancer, and singer.
She is best known for her role in Doctor Who's long-running television series Bill Potts.

Early life
Mackie grew up in Brixton, south London, and is of paternal West Indian and maternal English descent. She is the granddaughter of Philip Mackie, who wrote the screenplay for The Naked Civil Servant. She earned a degree in Drama from the University of Bristol and is fluent in English, French, and Spanish. She went to lectures and participated in several extra-curricular performances during her studies.
She graduated from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2010. Mackie was also selected for the BBC Carleton Hobbs Award for outstanding duologues in the school play Noughts & Crosses.

Career
In the 2013 music film comedy Svengali, Mackie appeared in an early mainstream role as a front of house girl. In 2014, Mackie appeared Anne-Marie Frasier in Doctors and Mia the young computer genius in Crystal Springs at the Park Theatre in London. At the Finborough Theatre in west London, she could also be seen in the political satire Obama-ology, playing Cece and Caits, two young women finding their voice.
In 2015, she appeared in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the National Theatre's West End. Mackie appeared in Date Aid by Bond, a satirical public service announcement, earlier this year. Mackie has also worked as an acting tutor for Troupers, a company that teaches theatre skills to children and young adults.
Mackie will be seen as Bill Potts, the companion of The Doctor in the British television series Doctor Who, on April 23, 2016. Bill will be the first openly gay main companion in the series, as it was revealed in March 2017.
