Career
Whitehouse obtained a degree in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia, where he made colleagues with Charlie Higson. The pair spent little of their first year of studies, instead playing guitar and performing with their punk rock band, the Right Hand Lovers.
In a Hackney council flat, squatted, Whitehouse occasionally served as a plasterer. Higson was born in 1980, and he joined Whitehouse, working by day as a decorator and then performing at night and weekends with his new punk-funk band The Higsons.
The pair first began working as tradesmen on a house shared by comedians Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, which inspired them to start writing comedies. They moved to a pub where Harry Enfield, a neighbor with a stage act, was performing, and after winning a spot on Channel 4's Saturday Live, the pair were invited to write for him. On Saturday Live, Whitehouse created Enfield's character Stavros (a London-based Greek kebab store owner) and then Loadsamoney (an archetypal Essex boy who did well in Margaret Thatcher's 1980s); he also appeared as Enfield's sidekick Lance.
This success boosted Whitehouse and Higson's careers, with Whitehouse appearing on Vic Reeves' Big Night Out and Wide, as well as Harry Enfield's Television Program, where they created many characters, including DJ Mike Smash of Smashie and Nicey alongside Enfield as Dave Nicey, and Kevin Migliori from The Simpsons.
While watching a preview tape of highlights from Enfield's program, Whitehouse and Higson were inspired to create a rapid-fire delivery comedy series that would continue to be known as The Fast Show (when it was shown in the United States on BBC America, the show was titled Brilliant). Rowley Birkin QC, Unlucky Alf, Arthur Atkinson, Ron Manager, and Ted were among the Whitehouse's characters.
On September 10, 2011, Fosters' online series The Fast Show brought together six weekly episodes.
Whitehouse and his Fast Show colleague Dave Cummings co-wrote two series of the BBC comedy drama Happiness in 2001 and 2002; Whitehouse also performed the lead role as a voice-over actor during a mid-life crisis.
Whitehouse wrote, produced, and appeared with Chris Langham in the 2005 comedy film Help. Also for the BBC. All patients of Langham's psychotherapist were included in this film (except one, who is Langham's psychotherapist's psychotherapist). As a result of the pair's collaboration, Whitehouse became the first witness in the trial of Langham on July 24, 2007 in relation to the suspicion of possessing explicit images and videos of minors. Langham claimed that he downloaded this information as research for a character in the second series of Help, but Whitehouse's testimony only partially supported this assertion.
In the BBC sketch series Harry & Paul (formerly Ruddy Hell), Whitehouse appeared in the BBC sketch series Harry & Paul. It's Harry and Paul, starring Harry Enfield.
In the first episode of Bellamy's People, Whitehouse appeared alongside Charlie Higson, the BBC2 comedy series Bellamy's People. The parody came from the BBC Radio 4 show Down the Line. Bellamy's Kingdom was the show's working title at the time.

The two friends, who both suffer from heart disease, share their thoughts and experiences while fishing at a variety of locations around the UK. In 2021, the fourth series of Gone Fishing began airing. In September 2022, the fifth series was released.

During which they received a Sony Radio Academy Award, a second series was broadcast on January 16th to the 20th of February 2007. In January 2008, a fourth series was broadcast in January 2011 and a fifth in May 2013.
