Paul Nabor Life

Born Alfonso Palacio, Paul Nabor (26 January 1928 – October 22, 2014), a Garifuna singer and guitarist from Punta Gorda, Belize.

He is often credited with popularizing paranda, a twist on traditional Garifuna music, and is considered one of the genre's finest performers.

Early life

On January 26, 1928, Nabor was born as Alfonso Palacio. Although official reports identify his birthplace as Stann Creek Town (now Dangriga), Nabor told Amandala in 2009 that he was born in Punta Gorda, where he had lived for the rest of his life. At 18, Nabor began performing professionally.

Career

"Na Nei," Nabor's most well-known song in Belize, was written in honor of his deceased sister. Nabor, a popular entertainer in Central America, was fluent in English, Spanish, and Garifuna.

Nabor appeared on Andy Palacio's final album, Wátina, which was released in 2007. On Stonetree Records' showcase album Paranda, Nabor's music is also included. He retired from full-time in 2009 but played occasionally until 2013.
