Former steelworker Paul Lewis paid a neighbour £1,500 to find a killer to bump off his wife of 10 years Joanne Atkinson-Lewis, it's alleged. Lewis, 54, handed the bounty to neighbour Dominique Saunders, 34, and was frustrated when he later saw his wife 'still breathing' on a beach, a jury was told. The two men, who lived in neighbouring properties in Swansea Marina, both deny conspiracy to commit murder.

Husband paid £1,500 to hire a hitman to kill his estranged wife, court told

Former steelworker Paul Lewis, 54, is accused of plotting with his neighbour Dominique Saunders (left) over ways to kill his estranged wife Joanne. Saunders, 34, was allegedly given £1,500 by Lewis to hire a hitman to get the job done as the couple were going through a divorce. But a court heard grandfather Lewis believed he had been scammed when he spotted Joanne alive on a trip to the beach and saw she was 'still breathing.' Lewis allegedly told Saunders he gave him the money 'in good faith' to have his wife killed.

Bingo fan bitten on backside by police dog, 69-year-old grandfather who torched a library and protester floored by a riot shield are all put behind bars

Britain's crackdown over the riots sparked by the killing of three girls in Southport continued today - as thugs including a bingo fan bitten on the backside by a police dog, and a grandfather who was part of a mob that torched a library were jailed. Ryan Sheers, who yelled 'I pay your wages' at embattled officers before a police dog nipped him, wept in court as he was jailed for over two years today. The 28-year-old and his boyfriend Steven Mailen, 54, had spent the day at the bingo together before walking into the middle of the disorder that rocked Hartlepool on July 31. Each received sentences of two years and two months in prison by a judge who told them the public were 'rightly outraged by the behaviour seen on the streets of this country.' The pair, both from Hartlepool, had pleaded guilty to a charge of violent disorder and had been warned to expect jail, however Sheers burst into tears when the length of the term was announced.
