Paul Gleason Life

Paul Xavier Gleason (May 4, 1939 – May 27, 2006) was an American film and television actor best known for his appearances on television shows such as All My Children and films such as The Breakfast Club, Trading Places, and Die Hard.

Early life

Gleason was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on May 4, 1939, the son of Eleanor (née Doyle), a licensed nurse), and George L. Gleason, a restaurateur, freelance boxer, and roofing contractor. Gleason was born in Miami Beach, Florida. He ran away from home and hitchhiked across the east coast, sleeping on beaches and playing baseball at the age of 16. He attended North Miami High School and Florida State University, where he played football. He signed a professional baseball contract with the Cleveland Indians but played in just short stints in two minor league seasons between 1959 and 1960.

During the last season, a West Coast trip resulted in the introduction of sitcom legend Ozzie Nelson, which culminated in an appearance on Ozzie and Harriet (as per Nelson's tradition of acquiring guest stars on the program). Acting was an option — and it was becoming increasingly popular — given Gleason's young baseball career. He migrated to New York City, then joined The Actors Studio, where he would study for four years before heading to Los Angeles.

Personal life

During these golf tournaments, Gleason, in addition to his acting career, was known to mingle with followers and sign autographs.

He was married to actress Candy Moore from 1971 to 1978; they had one daughter, Shannon. He was married to Susan Kehl from 1995 to his death; they had just one child, Kaitlin.
