Patrick Bruel Life

Patrick Maurice Benguigui (French pronunciation: [patik mon bn]; born on May 19, 1959), better known by his stage name Patrick Bruel (pronounced [pat byl]), is a French singer-songwriter, actor, and professional poker player.

Early life

Patrick is the son of Pierre Benguigui and Augusta Kammoun, Elie and Céline Ben Sidoun's daughter. Bruel aspired to be a footballer in his youth but instead of going for singing after seeing Michel Sardou in 1975.

In 1979's Le Coup de sirocco, he was first to be successful as an actor. While focusing on his singing career, he continued to perform in films, on television, and in theater. He first hit, "Vide" ("Empty"), in 1982, was not a hit, but "Marre de cette nana-là" ("Fed up with the chick"), his follow-up, "Vivide" ("Fed up with that chick") was a hit.

In 2003, just before his partner, writer and playwright Amanda Sthers, gave birth to his first child, Oscar, on August 19, he changed his name to Bruel-Benguigui, combining his stage name with his birth name. He married the then 26-year-old Sthers on September 21, 2004; it was his first marriage. Léon, his second child, was born on September 28, 2005. In 2007, the two couples were divorced.

Bruel has appeared in more than forty television and film productions, has released five studio albums, and many live albums, as of 2004. Entre Deux, Bruel's second CD of classic chanson featuring duets with Charles Aznavour, Jean-Jacques Goldman, Alain Souchon, and Renaud, among others, was released in 2002. It sold two million copies and became Bruel's Best Paid Singer of the Year. Bruel wrote the song "Et puis la terre" with Marie-Florence Gros, with whom he had started a long-term collaboration in 1998 to benefit the Red Cross at the beginning of 2005. "Des souvenirs devant," his fourth chart-topper in France, was his fourth.

Bruel is a world-class professional poker player. In 1998, he captured the $5,000 Limit Hold'em tournament and won a World Series of Poker bracelet. He has more than $900,000 in tournament play as of 2009, of which his ten cash winnings at the WSOP account for $411,659. He also spoke on the World Poker Tour in France.
