Career

McCormick graduated from Rosemont College in 1974-1978. McCormick obtained an MS degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 1985-1986 and an MFA from the New School in 1999. She resides in New York City. McCormick is a regular contributor to several magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times, Ladies Home Journal, Town & Country, and Reader's Digest.

Her books are largely based on study and interviews. McCormick, a writer, went to India and Nepal's mountain villages to talk to sex trafficking survivors. She spent a month in Cambodia with a survivor of the Khmer Rouge Genocide, Never Fall Down.

Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl who was killed by the Taliban for standing up for her human rights to an education, has worked for her. In 2013, I Am Malala: How One Girl Stood Up for Education and Changed the World was published.
