Pat Bowlen Life

Patrick Dennis Bowlen (February 18, 1944 – June 13, 2019) was the American majority owner of the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL).

The Bowlen family, as well as his two brothers John Bowlen and Bill Bowlen, as well as sister Marybeth Bowlen, purchased the team from Edgar Kaiser in 1984.

Bowlen served as the Broncos CEO from his inception and progression of Alzheimer's disease from 1984 to July 2014.

Early life

Bowlen was born in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, to American mother Arvella (née Woods) and Canadian father Paul Dennis Bowlen, who became a millionaire in the Canadian oil industry, and mother Regent Drilling as a wildcatter. John, his brother's brother, now controls the oil company. Bowlen was a Catholic boy who spent his childhood in Alberta. He then attended Campion High School, a Catholic Jesuit boarding school in his hometown Wisconsin. Bowlen received degrees in commerce (1965) and law (1968) from the University of Oklahoma. He appeared for the Oklahoma Sooners freshman football team as well as the Edmonton Huskies junior football team, where he was a member of three Canadian Junior Football League Championship teams from 1962 to 1964.

In Edmonton, Alberta, the younger Bowlen became a wealthy advocate. Bowlen has worked as an executive for his father's business as well as a real estate developer, and has made substantial investments in the mining industry. Batoni-Bowlen Enterprises, Greg's building company in Edmonton, designed the Northlands Coliseum, which would be home to the WHA/NHL's Edmonton Oilers for 42 years.

Bowlen was an early member of the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity. In 1963, the University of Oklahoma, Beta Omicron chapter, initiated bowlen. Bowlen was accepted in the Bar in 1969 and was a member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Canadian Bar Association.

How Hamilton, Condoleezza Rice and Walmart's king pulled off the richest takeover in sports history

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 17, 2023
The war against the ruling family was never declared in Colorado. Rather, war broke out in-house, a long, public domestic feud involving heirs to one of America's most profitable franchises. When the Denver Broncos were auctioned for $3.87 billion last summer, they eventually arrived D-Day. It had been tumultuous and bitter. It all came with the richest takeover in sports history. So, with all the green and gold and bile being thrown their way, the Glazers' succession strategy at Manchester United seems more stifled. United's sale, which came to a halt last night, may be even more profitable. Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and the United Kingdom are all interested in the country. The Broncos were not short of suitors, either - NFL teams do not appear on the market often. Among the bidders? Todd Boehly, whose group acquired Chelsea, was a sponsor of Chelsea.

Walmart heirs complete $4.65BILLION deal to buy the Denver Broncos

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 9, 2022
The Denver Broncos have officially sold to a group of Walmart heirs for a record price of $4.65 billion. That's not just an NFL record, but a sports record, eclipsing Steve Cohen's $2.4 billion purchase of the New York Mets and David Tepper's $2.3 billion acquisition of the Carolina Panthers. It even exceeds Todd Boehly's $5.12 billion acquisition of Chelsea FC because that figure includes investments in the London soccer club's stadium and donations to charities supported by outgoing owner, Roman Abramovich. In the end, the true sales price was close to $3 billion, according to multiple reports. The Walton Penner Ownership Group's bid was approved by unanimous vote of NFL owners at a meeting on Tuesday, according to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
