Richard Alfonso Martinez (born June 18, 1961), better known by the stage name Oz Fox, is the lead guitarist of the Christian glam metal band Stryper.
In his pre-Stryper days, Martinez' high school classmates named him Oz in honor of Ozzy Osbourne's ability to imitate Osbourne's vocals while playing Black Sabbath covers.
In 1983, the Sweet brothers recruited him to form what would become Stryper.
Fox performed and toured with Stryper until the band's first break up in 1992, but has since rejoined the band.
Personal life
On June 5, 2009, Fox married Annie Lobert, a former sex worker for 16 years and converted evangelical Christian, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The ceremony was broadcast live on the internet. "Hookers for Jesus" is Lobert's outreach to sex-workers who are still on the streets.
When performing with a side band in Las Vegas on August 12, 2018, Fox had a seizure and was admitted to the hospital at 12:30 a.m. Two masses were found on a CT scan and MRI, one in the ear and the other in the back of his head.
Fox was admitted to the hospital in March 2021 and underwent brain surgery to repair the tumor near his ear to minimize the chance of hearing loss, impaired balance, possible vision loss, and spinal abnormalities. However, Fox experienced hearing loss in his left ear and vision in his right eye following the surgery.
