Career
Laguna is based in Los Angeles, and his father, Robert Ookay, appeared solo at EDC 2015 in Ookay's Father's Day set.
Ookay partnered with Diplo to remix Avicii's "You Make Me" by Avicii. On the 30th of August 2013, the album was released as a digital download.
Showtek and Ookay also released "Bouncer" via Showtek's label Skink Records on March 10, 2014. Two weeks later, Spinnin' Records' YouTube channel had an official music video posted.
Ookay's debut EP Ghost came out on November 7, 2014 on Steve Aoki's label Dim Mak Records. Ookay said, "I really wanted to push the boundaries of my ability" when discussing his inspirations for the EP. My followers get all a kick when I make something other than trap. So I made an entire EP that isn't trap (except Egg Drop Soup). Trying to convince everyone that i'm not a one-trick pony."
On March 25, 2016, Ookay released "Thief" on digital platforms. Davin Tjen's music video, directed by Rumena Dinevska for the song, was posted on Ookay's YouTube channel five days later. When asked when he started working on the album, Ookay said, "a year ago, right after I came back from Coachella 2015." The song debuted at 27th on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart as of August 19, 2016.
Ookay's second extended play, Cocoon, featured five songs, was released on October 7, 2016. Big Makk, a fellow DJ and friend who died from a car crash in August, Ookay said, "I can't believe it had to be this way, and I didn't even get to say goodbye." With all proceeds going to Big Makk's family, a tribute show in which Ookay was a performer, had raised $8,000 in donations.
For Valentine's Day, Ookay performed "Stay Forever" as a single. He later collaborated with Marshmello to produce the single "Chasing Colors" with vocals by Noah Cyrus.
On September 1, Ookay collaborated with English singer-songwriter Fox Stevenson to debut the future bass track "Lighthouse" on Canadian independent record label Monstercat. Lighthouse was described by Erik of EDM Sauce as "a bit repetitive at certain points," which is really the only thing that holds this tune back from a higher ranking. This song, on the other hand, is amusing and well put together."
In March 2020, Ookay was supposed to appear at the Ultra music festival, but the festival was cancelled due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.
