OMI Career

Career

Omar Samuel Pasley was born in Clarendon's parish. He established in Kingston after being discovered by dancehall impresario Clifton Dillon (known as Specialist) and referred to Oufah, a liberation Jamaican trademark. "Standing On Both Threes" was his first recorded single and was released with a music video. In 2008, OMI composed his hit song "Cheerleader." In 2012, he performed it and was released. During OMI's first trip to the United States, it was published in Jamaica along with a low-budget, high-concept video shoot in Oregon, making it a modest success in Jamaica and also popular in Hawaii and Dubai. Never releasing an album, OMI had hits like "Take It Easy," "Fireworks" (accompanied by a music video) and "Color of My Lips," the latter starring Busy Signal, a well-known Jamaican dancehall, ska, and reggae singer.

Patrick Moxey, the president of Ultra Music, and a dance label partially owned by Sony Music, heard the song and wanted to remix it and relaunch it as a dance track in 2014. Ultra Music received two remixes for the song, one by Ricky Blaze and the other by Felix Jaehn, a 20-year-old German producer. Ultra Music eventually settled on Jaehn's airy tropical house version of "Cheerleader." The remix was a big hit in Sweden and was eventually certified 5 times platinum. The song soon became a hit on other European charts, including France, Italy, and Germany. In several European countries and Australia, it topped the charts. OMI made history on May 24, 2015, when "Cheerleader" topped the UK Singles Chart for the fourth week in a row, marking the longest run on the charts. The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 2015; it later took first place of the Hot 100 after 12 weeks in the chart. OMI has been praised around the world for its coveted top position. He released the single "Hula Hoop" on August 27, 2015. On October 16, 2015, he released his debut studio album Me 4 U. The album includes the singles "Cheerleader," "Hula Hoop," "Stir It," and "Drop in the Ocean."
