Early life

Munn was born in Oklahoma City on July 3, 1980, to Kimberly Schmid and Winston Munn. Her father is of German, Irish, and English roots. Following the Vietnam War, her mother, who is of Chinese origins, arrived in the United States in 1975 and settled in Oklahoma, where she first encountered Munn's father. Munn's younger brother, John, a physicist; an older brother, James, a custom motorcycle shop owner; and two older sisters, Annie and Sara, the latter of whom is a lawyer.

When Munn was two years old, her parents divorced and her mother married a United States Air Force soldier. The family moved to Utah, where they lived until 1986. Munn's stepfather was then transferred to Yokota Air Base in Tokyo, Japan, where she spent her formative years. She has described her stepfather as "verbally offensive" and demeaning. "I would bring everybody into my room and make introductions of teachers or film scenes," she said. "And that would take their minds off of the hell that was going down the hall."

Munn was 16 years old when her mother divorced her stepfather and moved with the children back to Oklahoma City. Munn attended Putnam City North High School for her junior and senior years, then enrolled in University of Oklahoma, where she earned a B.A. With a minor in Japanese and dramatic arts, I became interested in journalism.

Personal life

Munn said, "I didn't believe in the supernatural before this movie" regarding her faith and work in Deliver Us from Evil. However, after seeing video from the New York City Police Department of suspected real-life exorcisms, she said, "I'm a complete believer [now]."

She is a black belt in taekwondo.

Munn accused film producer Brett Ratner of repeated sexual assault against her as well as a case of sexual assault in November 2017. She has endorsed the Me Too and Time's Up movement both personally and publicly.

Munn was in a football union with NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers from 2014 to 2017. In 2021, she began dating comedian John Mulaney, who announced that Munn was pregnant in September 2021. Their son was born on November 24, 2021. Munn's middle name is Hip, which honors the Vietnamese nation of their son.

Career

Munn spent time as an intern at Tulsa's NBC affiliate before relocating to Los Angeles. She interned at Fox Sports Networks and spent time as a sideline reporter for college football and women's basketball in 2004. "I was trying to be something I wasn't able to be," she said, "and it made me really uncomfortable on live television." She then migrated to Los Angeles, where she was cast in a small role in the direct-to-video horror film Scarecrow Gone Wild. She appeared in lead singer Justin Mauriello's music video for their song "Hello Tomorrow" as the love interest of the couple. She appeared in National Lampoon's Strip Poker also. Kato Kaelin appeared in Hedonism II, a naturist resort in Negril, Jamaica. The films were shown on DirecTV and In Demand pay-per-view.

Munn began her career as a teenager surfer Mily Acuna over two seasons of the television drama Beyond the Breakdown, which aired during Noggin's teen block, The N. She loves surfing and continues to practice the sport. She had applied for Kai Kealoha at the beginning, but the producers wanted a "local girl." She appeared in The Road to Canyon Lake, as well as the film The Road to Canyon Lake.

Munn gained a contest held open to the public in 2006 to find a replacement for departing co-host Kevin Rose on the famous G4 network show Attack of the Show. On April 10, she began co-hosting with Kevin Pereira. Sarah Lane, the temporary co-host, was replaced by her. Munn appeared in Magic Mike, directed by Steven Soderbergh, in 2012 and played a key role in The Babymakers, a minor role in Freeloaders, and appeared in Magic Mike. In three episodes of FOX's sitcom New Girl's season two, she appeared as Angie, Nick's stripper girlfriend.

Munn gained fame as a lead in Aaron Sorkin's drama series The Newsroom on HBO.
