Nuno Markl Career

Career

Markl is well-known in Portugal for his radio show "O Homem Que Mordeu Co" (The Man Who Bit The Dog). It all began in 1997, when he joined Pedro Ribeiro, José Manuel Malato, and Ana Lamy for the morning show at Rádio Comercial. Malato and Lamy were both born in 2001, but Maria de Vasconcelos took their place, replacing them. A television show and three books followed the radio series's success.

Markl has been working for Antena 3 since October 2008, including "So Coisas Que Acontecem," "Laboratolarilolela" (a showcase of lesser-known Pimba artists and songs), and "Nuno & Nando" (with Fernando Alvim). He wrote "Há Vida Markl" (based on a comic strip that was previously published on Inimigo Pblico) and "O Livro dos Porquês") before "So Coisas Que Acontecem" (where amusing responses were given to everyday factoid questions). Caderneta de Cromos, another one of his most popular radio shows on Rádio Comercial, was another one. In it, he recalled nostalgic experiences from his childhood.

He has a second show on Rádio Comercial, Grandiosa História Universal das Traquitanas, which addresses mankind's inventions.

Nuno Markl appeared on television in 2001 and co-hosting "Sem Filtro" (a youth-oriented talk show on RTP1) with Rita Mendes and Gaspar Borges. He then moved to SIC Radical, where he worked on two separate projects based on his other passion, filmmaking. He appeared in SIC Radical as Fernando Alvim, O Perfeito Anormal, which founded the comedy troupe Gato Fedorento.

He wrote many cult sketches for Herman José, including his film "Herman Enciclopédia." He wrote for the prematurely cancelled Programa da Maria (which included sketches by Upright Citizens Brigade) and now writes for Os Contemporâneos. Nuno's Weblog, A Cave do Markl, is a website that publishes movie reviews, video blogs, and news about his work. TV and print ads for Café Delta are among other side projects, as well as performing voice acting for the Portuguese version of films.

He was also responsible for translating and adapting Monty Python sketches for an onstage Portuguese version, including Bruno Nogueira, Miguel Guilherme, António Feio, and José Pedro Gomes.
