Norodom Buppha Devi Career

Life and career

At Lycée Preah Norodom in Phnom Penh, Buppha Devi completed her high school education. Queen Sisowath Kossamak, the royal's grandmother, wanted her to become a dancer early in her life. She became Cambodia's best dancer at the age of 15. She was given the honor of prima ballerina at the age of 18.

With Queen Kossamak's appearance in public, she then toured the world as the country's top dancer of the Royal Ballet. In the past, the ballet had only been performed before royalty to celebrate their dynastic ancestors and to honor the gods. Norodom Sihanouk, her father, starred her in his first feature-length film Apsara in 1966, thanks to her dancing abilities.

Buppha Devi served as Deputy Minister of Culture and Fine Arts from 1991-1993, adviser to the Royal Government in charge of Culture and Fine Arts from 1993-1998, and Minister of Culture and Fine Arts from 1998 to 2004.
