Norman Hassan Life

UB40, an English reggae and pop band, formed in Birmingham, England, in December 1978.

The band has had more than 50 singles in the UK Singles Chart, as well as worldwide success.

They have been nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album four times, and they have been finalists for the British Group of the Year in 1984.

UB40 has sold over 70 million copies around the world.

The band's ethnic make-up included musicians from English, Welsh, Irish, Jamaican, Scottish, and Yemeni parents. They had their debut "Food for Thought" and two Billboard Hot 100 number ones with "Red Red Wine" and "Can't Help Falling in Love," as well as "Can't Help Falling in Love."

Both of these songs also topped the UK Singles Chart, as did the band's version of "I Got You Babe."

Labour of Love (1983), and Promises and Lies (1993), their two most popular albums, reached number one on the UK Albums Chart.

Madness and UB40 are the first two bands to spend more weeks in the UK singles chart during the 1980s, with 214 weeks between them beginning in March 1979 until January 2008.

Astro, a member of the original band, continued to play with Campbell and Virtue in a new version of UB40.

In 2014, the original band (now consisting of drummer Jimmy Brown, guitarist Robin Campbell, bassist Norman Hassan, and saxophonist Duncan Travers) and new vocalist Duncan Campbell) went public to sue Campbell, Virtue, and Astro for using the word in a variety of ways, including new vocalist Duncan Travers, and former founding member Duncan Campbell.
