Norm Lewis (born June 2, 1963) is an American actor and baritone singer.

He has performed on Broadway, television, films, recordings, and regional theatre.

Dessa Rose, Miss Saigon, The Wild Party, and several others have been included in productions, including Playbill's "an outstanding Broadway revival."

He is perhaps best known for his appearances in Porgy and Bess' and The Phantom of the Opera, making musical theatre history as the first African-American actor to appear in the title role in Broadway's long-running production Phantom of the Oppos.

Lewis was born in Tallahassee, Florida, and grew up in Eatonville, Florida. He graduated from Edgewater High School, Orlando, in 1981. He appeared at the Orlando Sentinel before beginning his acting career.

Lewis traces the start of his career to Ralph Petillo, who formerly ran Theatre on Park in Winter Park, Florida.

Lewis appeared as Agwe in the Gateway Playhouse (Bellport, New York) production Once on This Island in 1992.

Lewis made his Broadway debut in The Who's Tommy (1993). He was a replacement for John Saigon in Miss Saigon. He appeared in Side Show in 1997. Eddie was also featured in Michael John LaChiusa's Broadway musical The Wild Party as Eddie. Lewis Cleale appeared in Michel Legrand's short-lived musical Amour in 2002, which also included Melissa Errico, Malcolm Gets, and Lewis Cleale. Eddie Satin, the racketeer, appeared in the New York City Center Encores! In March 2002, Golden Boy performed a staged concert. Billy Flynn appeared in the Broadway revival of Chicago in February 2004 and March 2004. He appeared in numerous charity concerts, including Dreamgirls (2001), Chess (2003), and Hair.

Lewis appeared in the Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park revival of a musical version of Two Gentlemen of Verona in 2005. Nathan was a protagonist in Dessa Rose's 2005 film, Dessa Rose's Lincoln Center 2005 performance.

Lewis has appeared in Les Misérables several times. He first appeared in the role in the 2006 Broadway revival, making him the first African American actor to play in a professional English production. In the West End's version, he revived it. He appeared in the 25th anniversary concert of the show at O2 Arena in London. Lewis played him again in the role in The Muny, St. Louis production, which ran from July 15-23, 2013.

He appeared in The Little Mermaid's Broadway production in 2007. On the original Broadway cast recording, he went on to perform as King Triton.

He appeared in Sweeney Todd, the musical produced by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler, at the Casa Maana Theatre in Fort Worth, Texas, beginning in 1989. In 1999, he appeared at the Signature Theatre for the first time.

Lewis appeared in Sondheim's musical revue, which premiered in the Roundabout Theatre's Studio 54 in 2010. Barbara Cook and Vanessa L. Lewis appeared in the role of Senator Edison Davis in ABC's political thriller television series Scandal in 2012.

In the Park production of The Tempest at the Delacorte Theater, Lewis appeared as Pro Pro Prost in the Public Theater's PublicWorks Shakespeare. He was one of five professional actors leading a cast of 200 community participants.

He is an investor in Lolly Clothing, which was founded by his mentor and fellow Broadway actor Chad Kimball.

He appeared in the Stephen Sondheim-Wynton Marsalis staged concert for Encores! A Bed and a Chair: A New York Love Affair, located in New York City Center, from November 13 to November 17, 2013. Bernadette Peters, Jeremy Jordan, and Cyrille Aimée appeared on the program, which was also directed by John Doyle.

Lewis played the titular Phantom of the Opera on Broadway on May 12, 2014. This made him the first black actor to play on Broadway and the third internationally. Hugh Panaro was replaced by Hugh Panaro and Sierra Boggess, a fellow returning cast member who renamed Christine on the same date. Lewis, the Phantom, brought an end to his tenure as the Phantom with a performance at the Majestic Theatre on February 7, 2015. He was praised for his "impressive Broadway resumé" coverage in Playbill. Lewis, who was replaced by actor James Barbour, remarked that he had been a fan of the musical for many years and felt that winning the role had been closer to winning the lottery.

Lewis is the recipient of the 2014 AUDELCO Special Achievement Award.

Lewis recalled his role as King Triton in a live Hollywood Bowl concert performance of The Little Mermaid in 2016. On this Island, he first appeared in Agwe in Once on January 8, 2018, and he continues to do so.

In the live televised concert performance of Jesus Christ Superstar on April 1, 2018, Easter Sunday, Lewis portrayed Caiaphas.
