Nimrat Kaur (born 13 March 1982) is an Indian actress.

She began her career as a print model and then went on to perform in theaters.

Kaur appeared in Anurag Kashyap's production Peddlers, which was screened at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival for brief scenes.

She tied it up with her debut in The Lunchbox, a critically acclaimed drama co-starring Irrfan Khan that was screened at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, she followed it. In the fourth season of the American television show Homeland, Kaur appeared in the recurring role of Inter-Services Intelligence agent Tasneem Qureshi.

She costarred in the war thriller Airlift with Akshay Kumar.

In the second season of the American television series Wayward Pines, Kaur started portraying Rebecca Yedlin.

Early life and background

In Pilani, Rajasthan, Kaur was born into a Sikh family. Major Bhupinder Singh, SC, was an Indian Army soldier, and Rubina, a psychologist based in Bangalore, is her younger sister. Her family lived in Patiala and she attended Yadavindra Public School, Patiala. Her father was kidnapped and murdered by Kashmiri Terrorists in 1994. Her family and her family migrated to Noida, Delhi-suburb, where she grew up and attended Delhi Public School. She later studied at Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University, and obtained a B.Com Hons in commerce.

Career

Kaur went to Mumbai and worked as a print model after her studies. She began acting as a theater actress in plays such as Baghdad Wedding (2012), All About Women, and Red Sparrow, alongside Sunil Shanbag and Manav Kaul.

In a two-part music video for Kumar Sanu's album "Tera Mera Pyar" and "Yeh Kya Hua" by Shreya Ghoshal in 2004, Kaur was unveiled. Apurva Asrani, a writer-editor, produced the videos. She also did television commercials.

Kaur made her film debut in One Night with the King (2006), which was shot in Rajasthan. Peddlers made her Hindi film debut in 2012, directed by Anurag Kashyap. The film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival with rave reviews.

When she appeared in a Cadbury Silk commercial, Kaur came to public notice.

Kaur attended the Cannes Festival for the second time as part of the epistolary romantic film The Lunchbox (2013). The film was a commercial and critical success. Kaur's portrayal of a lonely wife who begins a relationship with a man (played by Irrfan Khan) through letters has received rave reviews. "It's a disarmingly natural performance that is impossible to remember and difficult to analyze," Raja Sen of Rediff.com said of Kaur's results, "one can only express admiration," she wrote in this small space. Variety's Jay Weissberg called her a "radiant presence" and Pratim D. Gupta of The Telegraph that "Nimrat strips off all sentimentality in order to bring respect and respect to the character." This one is a dazzling debut."

In the fourth season of the American TV series Homeland, Kaur appeared as ISI agent Tasneem Quest. Saurabh Shukla directed an untitled psychological drama in the same year she committed to appear with Rajkummar Rao in an untitled psychological drama.

She appeared in the war drama Airlift in 2016, alongside Akshay Kumar. The film was released on January 22 in largely positive reviews based on the civil operation of evacuation of Indians based in Kuwait during the Iraq-Kuwait war. "For the most part, the film looks authentic," Rajeev Masand's review said, and Nimrat Kaur blends right in." She comes into her own by the time she must deliver a scathing monologue during a moment of uncertainty over her husband's conduct," says just a little awkward in the early scenes. The film was a financial success. In the second season of the American television series Wayward Pines, Kaur also started starring Rebecca Yedlin.

In the Hindi web series The Test Case, Kaur starred as Captain Shikha Sharma in 2017.

In February 2020, she appeared on Homeland for the eighth and final season.
