Life and career

Born in Cesena, Braschi studied at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Rome, where she first encountered Benigni in 1980. Tu Mi Turbi, Benigni's first film, was released in 1983. (You Upset Me). She appeared in two Jim Jarmusch films, Down by Law and Mysterious Train.

Johnny Stecchino (1992) and La Vita è Bella (1996), Braschi's two most fruitful collaborations with her husband. The first, an Italian comedy starring the actress as the girlfriend of a mobster (Benigni), was a huge hit in Italy, although the second, in which Braschi played the wife of an Italian Jew (Benigni), was a huge success that brought both Braschi and her husband into the international spotlight. She was nominated for a Screen Actor Guild award as a cast member of the film.

Braschi depressed teacher Ovosodo in 1997, teaching a student to study and study harder. The film received a David di Donatello award (Italy's equivalent of the Oscars) as well as much adoration from critics and the public.

She was a member of the jury at the 52nd Berlin Film Festival in 2002.

She appeared in and produced The Tiger and the Snow, a love story set during the Iraq war's initial stages. This was her last film appearance before Lazzaro, a 2018 film.

In 2010, she toured the Italian theatres in Tradimenti, based on Harold Pinter's play Betrayal.

At the 66th Cannes Film Festival in 2013, she was a member of the Cinéfondation and short films jury.
