High school career

Young, a native of Los Angeles, California, attended Cleveland High School in suburban Reseda, California. As a senior at Cleveland in 2004, he averaged 27.2 points and 10.8 rebounds, winning 2004 CIF L.A. City Section and San Fernando Valley first team awards. Cleveland finished 25–4 with a 57.3% field advantage and 48% from three-point range (52-of-111). Young was voted the country's seventh best player by HoopScoop and named by prep basketball guru Frank Burlison as one of the top 50 recruits in 2004. In one game, he had scored 56 points and had 23 rebounds in another. In 2003, he was named in a list of Top Seniors by Athlon Sports, a list of Top Seniors, and he continued to perform well in CIF L.A. City Section first team selections.

College career

Young was a member of the University of Southern California from 2004 to 2007 and was on the All-Pac-10 First Team in the 2005–06 and 2006–07 seasons. Young led the fifth-seeded Trojans to a spot in the Sweet Sixteen, where they lost to the one-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels, 74–64. Young aided the USC to a 77–60 victory over Arkansas along the way. Young led the team to 22 points over the Texas Longhorns in an 87–68 victory over the team containing Kevin Durant, the National Player of the Year, although Durant led both teams in scoring with 30 points.

Young announced on April 15, 2007, to the Los Angeles Times, that he will forego his senior year to go professional and enter the 2007 NBA Draft, where he was selected with the 16th overall pick by the Washington Wizards.

Professional career

In the 2007 NBA draft, Young was ranked 16th overall by the Washington Wizards. On December 15, 2007, he appeared in his first NBA game against the Sacramento Kings for the first time in his career.

Young was fined $10,000 by the Washington Wizards for participating in antics before a game against the Philadelphia 76ers on January 5, 2010. Gilbert Arenas was being investigated for a prior incident involving guns in the Wizards' locker room, but denied the allegations by pointing his finger at his teammates as if he were shooting them. His coworkers were photographed smiling and joking with him.

Young scored a career-high 43 points against the Sacramento Kings on January 11, 2011.

In a three-way trade involving the Denver Nuggets and Washington Wizards, Young was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers on March 15, 2012. He helped the Clippers clinch their first playoff appearance in six years against the Oklahoma City Thunder on April 16, 2012. In game one of the 2012 playoffs' first round, he was a key part of the Clippers' comeback victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. He had three three-pointers in less than a minute.

Young signed with the Philadelphia 76ers to a one-year contract on July 12, 2012.

Young signed with the Los Angeles Lakers on July 11, 2013. He converted a Lakers-record seven four-point plays during the 2013-2014 season, while still scoring a career-high 17.9 points per game.

Young re-signed with the Lakers on July 21, 2014, earning him a four-year, $21.5 million contract. He suffered a complete tear of the radial collateral ligament in his right thumb during training camp and was predicted to miss six to eight weeks. Young made his season debut against the Atlanta Hawks on November 18, scoring 17 points and 5 rebounds in a 114–109 victory after missing the first ten games of the season due to the injury. In a 112–110 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on December 12, he scored a season-high 29 points.

Young was ruled out for two to four weeks due to a strained right calf muscle. In a 119–108 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on December 17, 2016, he made eight three-pointers and scored a season-high 32 points. Young's rebound from long range featured him 36 three-pointers in eight games, the most in an eight-game stretch in Lakers franchise history. Young was suspended by the Lakers for the last five regular-season games on April 2, 2017, after being held out of 11 of the previous 12 games despite being healthy. Young decided not to exercise his right to extend his contract for the 2017-18 season, thereby making him an unrestricted free agent.

Young signed with the Golden State Warriors on July 7, 2017. Young came off the bench to score 23 points and six 3-pointers in his Warriors' season opener on October 17, 2017. Young helped the Warriors advance to the 2018 NBA Finals, where they defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in a four-game sweep, with Young winning his first NBA title.

Young signed with the Denver Nuggets on December 10, 2018. He was suspended by the Nuggets after appearing in just four games twenty days earlier on December 30.

A minor leaguer sings of his home run, only to find it was a fly out after rounding third

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 23, 2022
Delvin Perez, a minor league talent for the St. Louis Cardinals, had a magical moment on Thursday night, but not the one he was hoping for! Perez, the Atlanta Braves' Triple-A affiliate, seemed to have smashed a homer to the left field for his Memphis Redbirds. The result might have been on any given day, but the howling wind in Memphis had other plans.
