He played college football at West Virginia.

High school career

Kwiatkoski played wide receiver and safety at Bethel Park High School. He was also selected to the preseason Fabulous 22 list of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in 2010. He missed the first two months of his senior year due to a back injury. He was selected to play in the Chesapeake Bowl last season. On Rivals.com's list of Pennsylvania's top 40 players, he was ranked 32nd.

College career

Kwiatkoski later attended West Virginia University (WVU), where he majored in multidisciplinary research. He redshirted as a freshman in 2011. He appeared in 12 games, starting one as a redshirt freshman in 2012. He had 28 tackles and three pass break-ups in his three seasons. As a redshirt sophomore, I played in and started ten games at "Will" linebacker position in 2013. He finished with 86 tackles, 6.5 tackles-for-loss, two sacks, two forcible fumbles, and tied for second on the team with three interceptions. Phil Steele named him second-team All-Big 12 by the end of the season. With 54, he ranked sixth in the Big 12 and 30th in solo tackles in the country. In addition, the team was ranked fifth in total tackles.

Kwiatkoski started all 13 games in 2014 as a redshirt junior. He led the team with 103 tackles while still leading with 71 solo tackles. In addition,, he was the team's tackles-for-loss leader with 11.5. He also appeared in an assisted sack and four pass-breaks. He came in fifth in the Big 12 in total tackles and 12th in tackles-for-loss for the season. He appeared in all 13 games as a redshirt senior in 2015. He had 86 tackles, ten tackles-for-loss, three interceptions, and one forcible fumble.

Professional career

On December 1, 2015, it was revealed that Kwiatkoski had accepted his invitation to play in the 2016 Senior Bowl. Kwiatkoski's North team, which lost 27-16 to the South on January 30, 2016, collected three combined tackles on January 30, 2016. In Indianapolis, Kwiatkoski completed all of the combine and positional drills. On April 1, 2016, Kwiatkoski attended the pro day in West Virginia, but opted to remain on his team's number rather than doing positional drills. With the Philadelphia Eagles, Kwiatkoski had a single pre-draft visit. By NFL draft experts and scouts, Kwiatkoski was expected to be a fourth or fifth round pick at the end of the pre-draft process. DraftScout.com ranked him 14th best outside linebacker prospect in the draft.

In the fourth round (113th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears selected Kwiatkoski; to draft him, the Bears traded their fourth (117th overall) and sixth round picks (206th overall) in order to advance. He was the 15th linebacker drafted in 2016. The Bears signed Kwiatkoski to a four-year, $2.91 million contract, which also includes a signing bonus worth $575,120.

In two games (six against the Tennessee Titans, nine against the Detroit Lions), Kwiatkoski played seven games during his rookie season and led the team in tackles (six against the Tennessee Titans and nine against the Detroit Lions). As he finished with 47 tackles and two sacks, he appeared in eleven games (starting six). According to Pro Football Focus, he ended the 2017 season as the third-best inside linebacker in run-stop percentage and fourth-best in pass-rush efficiency.

Before rookie Roquan Smith took over the role, he started 2018 as the starting linebacker. Kwiatkoski's first reception since high school took place against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17.

He started against the Vikings in Week 4 of the 2019 season. In the 16–6 victory, he recorded a team-high ten tackles and fired quarterback Kirk Cousins once. In Week 10 against the Detroit Lions, Kwiatkoski was sacked and intercepted by Jeff Driskel, who was coached by Jeff Driskel.

Kwiatkoski and the Las Vegas Raiders announced on March 27, 2020, a three-year, $21 million contract.

Kwiatkoski fumbled tight end Harrison Bryant, which was recovered by the Raiders after the 16–6 victory. This was Kwiatkoski's first game as a Raider. Kwiatkoski made his first interception as a Raider in Week 10, defeating Drew Lock late in the fourth quarter to win by 37–12. During the 43–6 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, Kwiatkoski's first dismissal of the season came on Matt Ryan. By the Oaklands on December 23, 2020, Kwiatkowski was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Kwiatkoski was placed on injured reserve on December 8, 2021.
