Nia Jax Career

Professional wrestling career

Fanene was signed by WWE in early 2014 and was assigned to their NXT developmental territory, headquartered at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. She made her in-ring debut at an NXT house show under the ring name Zada, teaming with Devin Taylor in a loss to Bayley and Carmella in a tag team match on May 7, 2015. Nia Jax, her ring name, was changed to Nia Jax in August.

Jax made her debut on October 14th in a singles match after a string of introductory vignettes throughout September, defeating Evie in a singles match. Following her debut, she was seen gradually turning villainous while on a winning streak, defeating various enhancement artists and NXT Diva Carmella. Jax formed a friendship with Eva Marie in November and began her first feud with Bayley over the NXT Women's Championship, cementing Jax's heel persona. On December 16, Jax was in a title match at NXT TakeOver: London, but she was disqualified from winning the title.

Jax returned to action after a month of inactivity due to a storyline injury with a win over Liv Morgan on January 27, 2016. On the February 10 episode of NXT, Jax assisted Marie in an assault on Bayley and Carmella after their championship match was interrupted until Asuka saved the match, resulting in a tag team match on Feb. 24. Jax and Marie scored the victory. Jax defeated Alexa Bliss and Carmella in a triple threat match on May 25 of NXT, making them the top contender for Asuka's NXT Women's Championship. At NXT Takeover: The End, Jax lost her title match on June 8, which was the end of a tense contest. Jax was defeated by Bayley on July 20th episode of NXT. In her last match in NXT, Jax lost to Asuka in the NXT Women's Championship on December 28.

Jax began a winning streak against various opponents after being moved from NXT to the Raw brand as part of the 2016 WWE draft, which took place on July 19, 2016. Jax appeared in her first rivalry with Alicia Fox in September, resulting in a match between the two teams on the September 12 episode of Raw that ended in a no contest after she performed a spear on Fox through the ringside barricade. In a rematch between the two teams that took place at the Clash of Champions pre-show on September 25, Jax defeated Fox by pinfall. Jax, who was a member of Team Raw in a five-on-five elimination tag team competition on November 20, was disqualified by Becky Lynch's submission on November 20 at Survivor Series.

Jax started a feud with her mentor Sasha Banks, whom she wounded as part of the storyline in December. This resulted in two matches between the two teams, where Jax was first victorious at the Royal Rumble pre-show on January 29, 2017, but lost at Fastlane on March 5. Jax was ranked first in a crucial four-way elimination match against Banks, Bayley, and Charlotte Flair on April 3 in WrestleMania 33, but she was disqualified first. Jax debuted Bayley, Mickie James, Dana Brooke, and Emma before being defeated by Banks on June 26 in a gauntlet match for Alexa Bliss' Raw Women's Championship. Jax also lost the title on September 24 at No Mercy in a crucial five-way match for the Raw Women's Championship, but she failed to win the tournament. Jax was again a member of Team Raw in a five-on-five elimination tag team match in which she was ruled out by countout on November 19 at Survivor Series.

Jax was placed in an on-screen match with then WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore, which was suspended after Amore was banned from the WWE in January 2018. Jax competed in the first women's royal rumble match, defeating Jacqueline, Kelly Kelly, Ruby Riott, and Naomi before being disqualified by six women on January 28. Jax began a feud with the undefeated Asuka, whom she lost to defeat on February 25 at Elimination Chamber and a week later on Raw.

Jax turned face in March after being insulted and betrayed by former best friend, Raw Women's Champion Alexa Bliss, who body shamed her and mocked her appearance. This culminated in a championship match between the two teams on April 8, 2018, where she defeated the Raw Women's Championship for the first time in her career. Jax won by defeating Bliss a month later in a rematch that took place a month later at Backlash on May 6, retaining her title. Jax commenced a feud with Ronda Rousey, whom she defeated at a title match at Money in the Bank's pay-per-view in May. Jax briefly returned to her villainous theatrics during the feud. Jax lost her championship back to Bliss, who intervened in her match and injured both Jax and Rousey in her Money in the Bank, which she won earlier that night. Jax used her rematch provision at Extreme Rules a month later, but she was unsuccessful in regaining the title in a tough rules competition.

Jax returned to Raw on September 17 as the mystery tag team partner of Ember Moon, defeating Alicia Fox and Mickie James after a brief absence due to a minor injury. Jax was defeated by Moon on October 28, at the WWE Evolution pay-per-view, one month later, as she defeated the king of a fight royal to win a future women's championship match. Jax regained control on the November 5 episode of Raw, just after defeating Moon in a singles match, forming the Samoan Slaughterhouse) and attacking Moon. In an interbrand women's traditional five-on-five tag team elimination match against Team SmackDown on November 18, Jax was the sole survivor for Team Raw against Team SmackDown in an interbrand women's traditional five-on-five tag team elimination match. On December 16, Jax's TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs function failed to regain the Raw Women's Championship from Rousey.

Jax competed in the women's Royal Rumble event on January 27, 2019, starting at number 29 and lasting more than 11 minutes before being eliminated by eventual winner Becky Lynch. Jax made history by becoming the first woman to ever compete in two Royal Rumble matches on the same night and the fourth woman to ever compete in a men's Royal Rumble match since she sluggishly attacked R-Truth and claimed his number 30 position. Despite excluding Mustafa Ali, Jax was ganged up by Dolph Ziggler, Rey Mysterio, and Randy Orton with their finishers before being eliminated by Mysterio. Jax and Tamina competed in a six-team Elimination Chamber match on February 17, 2019, where they eliminated two teams before they were eliminated. The Women's Tag Team Championship came to an end in April, 35, Jax, and Tamina, but The IIconics won the match, with Billie Kay and Peyton Royce winning the match. Jax underwent surgery to resolve tears on both of her knees, which was expected to keep her out of in-ring competition for at least nine months.

Jax recovered from injury on April 6, 2020 of Raw, defeating Deonna Purrazzo in a squash match in a squash match. On the May 25 episode of Raw, Jax defeated Charlotte Flair and Natalya in a triple threat match to challenge Asuka for the Raw Women's Championship at Backlash. Backlash: Jax and Asuka went to a double count out, but Asuka retained the title. Jax defeated Asuka again for the title next night on Raw. Jax became outraged with the referee's presence during the game and pulled him down. The referee was supposed to disqualify Jax, but Asuka rolled up the dissatisfied Jax for a fast time to hold the title.

She was paired with Shayna Baszler in August and defeated the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Bayley and Sasha Banks at Payback to win the championship. At TLC, they lost the title to Asuka and Charlotte Flair's team. Baszler and Jax defeated Asuka and Flair on January 31, 2021, becoming the first-time WWE Women's Tag Team Champions. The team of Naomi and Lana, Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke, and Natalya and Tamina were all feuds during their second reign as tag team champions. On several occasions, they defended the name against all of them, but they were victorious in every match.

Jax and Baszler retained the tag team championship against Natalya and Tamina at WrestleMania 37, 37. They lost the title to Natalya and Tamina on May 14 episode of SmackDown, snaping their second reign at 103 days. She was beaten by Baszler after their match against each other on September 20 on Raw's September 20 episode. Baszler stompeted on her arm while wedged in the steel steps, causing Jax shrieking and yelling while being attended to. After the team disbanded, Jax begged WWE for time off to take care of her mental health, but Jax was suspended from her WWE deal on November 4, 2011.
