Netta Barzilai (born 22 January 1993), also known as Netta, is an Israeli musician, recording artist, and looping artist who won the fifth season of HaKokhav HaBa.
Due to her performance, she was chosen to represent her country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.

Early life
Barzilai was born in Hod HaSharon, Israel. Her mother is from a Maghrebi Jewish family (of Moroccan-Jewish and Libyan-Jewish descent), whereas her father is from an Ashkenazi Jewish family (of Polish-Jewish descent). She has two brothers. Barzilai lived in Nigeria for six years, where her father, who is an engineer, worked on a project for Israeli firm Solel Boneh.
Barzilai attended Hadarim High School in Hod HaSharon and served as a youth leader of the HaNoar HaOved VeHaLomed youth movement. She spent a Service Year in Nahal before serving in the Israel Defense Forces. She completed her military service in the Israeli Navy Band. She studied electronic music at the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music later in life, but she did not complete a degree there.
Career
Barzilai auditioned for season five of HaKokhav HaBa, Israel's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, with "Rude Boy" by Rihanna in September 2017. She advanced to the second stage of the competition, singing "Hey Mama" by David Guetta after receiving 82% of the votes. "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls in February 2018 and although she lost a duel to Ricky Ben Ari, she moved to the next stage after being selected by the judges.
Barzilai's last song in the competition was a mash-up of "Gangnam Style" by Psy and "Tik Tok" by Kesha. Barzilai gained first place and the right to represent Israel in Eurovision after receiving 210 points from the judges and audience.
Barzilai's song "Toy" would be performed in English at the competition, according to a word in Hebrew, apart from a Hebrew word. Doron Medalie and Stav Beger wrote and produced the song, which was later released by Berger.
On March 11, 2018, the album was announced, but its music video went viral and received more than 20 million views two months before Eurovision began. Barzilai performed her song at Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam on April 14, the country's biggest Eurovision promotional event. She performed Hora Heachzut at the torch-lighting service on the 70th Israeli Independence Day just four days later.
Barzilai advanced to the first semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 8th, winning the semi-final by 283 points and qualifying for the final on May 12th. She finished first with televoters and third with international juries in the final, bringing 529 points in total and winning the tournament, marking Israel's fourth Eurovision win (after 1978, 1979, and 1998).
Barzilai signed a worldwide record deal with New York-based label S-Curve Records just shy of winning Eurovision. Barzilai's "Bassa Sababa" was released on February 1, 2019, along with a music video shot in Kyiv with Eddie Kabtner.
Barzilai performed in Tel Aviv, Israel, in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, a new interpretation of her winning song "Toy" was unveiled. "Nana Banana," she sang during the final.
Barzilai began to appear around the world as part of Pride parades in Europe and television programs in the United States. On October 19, she appeared at the Zhejiang Satellite TV Autumn Festival in China in front of over 500 million television viewers and tens of thousands of viewers.
Barzilai debuted on "Pop Up Music 2" in Hanukkah, alongside Omer Adam, Keren Peles, Moshe Peretz, and others. They released the theme song of the show "We Got the Power" in November along with Adam, Moshe Peretz, and Rotem Cohen, who appeared alongside her in the film. "Beg" was later released as a duet with Adam.
"Ricki Lake," she's a new song on February 7, 2020. In addition, Barzilai unveiled Netta's Office, a series of YouTube videos in which she remixes songs using her trademark looper. During the Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light special event on May 16, she performed "Cuckoo," a new song. She made a cameo appearance in Netflix's The Story of Fire Saga. Vol. 2 of Netta's Office is a second EP titled The Best of Netta's Office. On December 18, a single was released in the Netta's Office series containing six of her remixes. She appeared as a judge on The X Factor Israel's fourth season, which selected Israel's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
Barzilai released "CEO" and "Dum", her first solo performance in over a year, and the first since leaving her previous label Tedy Productions for a complete change to S-Curve Records. "I Love My Nails" and "Playground Politica" were two other singles released in 2022 (with Nigerian-born Ghana-based singer Mr Eazi).
