Nell Campbell Life

Laura Elizabeth Campbell (born 24 May 1953), also known as Nell Campbell or Little Nell, is an Australian actress, singer, and club owner.

She is best known for her appearances in the film The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), as well as the original stage play from which it was based.

Campbell's debut extended play The Musical World of Little Nell (Aquatic Sex & Squalor) debuted by A&M Records in 1978.

In the 1981 film Shock Treatment, she appeared as Nurse Ansalong.

Early life

Campbell was born in Sydney, Australia, to Ruth and Ross Campbell. In his family life column in the Sydney Daily Telegraph, Ross, a writer, referred to her as "Little Nell" (after a character in Charles Dickens' The Old Curiosity Shop). Sally, Patrick, and Cressida were three of her three siblings' growing up. Elder sister Sally was a set designer and (subsequently) a fashion designer; younger sister Cressida Campbell is an artist; and Elder brother Patrick (who died in 2020) was a solar engineer at the University of New South Wales. Following being diagnosed with hepatitis A, Nell began dancing when she was ten years old in order to maintain her health. Laura E. Nell Campbell Career

Career

After arriving in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s with her family, Campbell adopted the term "Little Nell" as a stage name. She sold clothes at Kensington Market, and her stand was next to Freddie Mercury's. She has worked as a busker and as a soda jerk in a café, where her tap dancing has often been traced to her appearance in The Rocky Horror Show following an impromptu audition. She reprised her role in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which was released in 1975, and appeared as Nurse Ansalong in the 1981 sequel, Shock Treatment.

Campbell signed a recording deal with A&M Records after the Rocky Horror Picture Show. "Stilettos and Lipstick" was her debut album, released in 1975, as "Do the Swim" supported "Do the Swim." In 1976, she also recorded a disco version of "Fever," which was then backed by "Do the Swim." Both B-sides of these books became more well-known, perhaps because of her appearance on British television in which she mistakenly (and often) revealed her breasts. The edited version of the original broadcast in 1975 was shown on blooper shows around the world (beginning with the British show It'll be Alright on the Night in 1977). Following this notoriety, another attempt was made to market the recordings made in 1975 and 1976. The Musical World of Little Nell, a "triple B-side" extended play that debuted "Do the Swim" and "Stillettos and Lipstick" as the B-side of her second single from 1976, as well as "Mega World of Sex & Squalor" (also known as "Reality Island"). Following the success of the EP, the other two tracks, singles "Fever" and "See You Round Like a Record" were released as a single, but it was to be her last release on A&M. On 1981, the film "Beauty Queen" was released as the final single.

Campbell has appeared in many stage performances, including the Off-Broadway play You Should Be Lucky and the Broadway musical Nine. Sandra LeMon appeared in the British television series Rock Follies of '77,' she appeared as Sandra LeMon.

Campbell opened Nell's on West 14th Street in Manhattan (New York) in 1986 with Keith McNally and Lynn Wagenknecht. In 1995, she opened The Kiosk (uptown) and E&O (downtown). In 1998, Nell's was sold to Noel Ashman and his business partner, actor Chris Noth, right before Campbell gave birth to her daughter, Matilda Violet, with ex-boyfriend and business associate Eamon Roche. In 2004, the club closed down.

Campbell has written numerous journal articles, including regular segments "MamaTalks" and "FirstLook" in the now defunct Talk magazine, which appeared in the December 1999 issue.
