Neal P. McDonough (born February 13, 1966) is an American actor and producer best known for his role in Lieutenant Lynn "Buck" Compton's HBO miniseries Band of Brothers (2001), Robert Quarles on Justified, William Parker in Mob City, and ABC's Desperate Housewives.

He appeared in films including Star Trek: First Contact, Minority Report, Walking Tall, The Guardian, Flags of Our Fathers, Proud Mary, and several Marvel Cinematic Universe films and TV series.

He appeared on Arrow as Damien Darhk and in Legends of Tomorrow.

In addition, he appears in a number of animated films and video games as Malcolm Beck on Yellowstone, as well as voicing a variety of comic superheroes and villains.

Early life and education

McDonough was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, the son of Catherine (née Bushe) and Frank McDonough, a hotelier who immigrated from Ireland, with his mother coming from County Tipperary and his father from County Galway. McDonough grew up in Barnstable, Massachusetts, and was raised Catholic. McDonough's nicknamed him "Headster" in childhood, which McDonough claims was rooted in his brothers' hints at the size of his head. He graduated from Barnstable High School and Syracuse University, where he was initiated and became a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1988. He had received multiple college scholarships to play baseball, but he wanted to go to Syracuse because it had the best theater department in the country. McDonough's classical theatre training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art continued.

Personal life

McDonough is a devout Catholic. McDonough married Ruvé Robertson, a South African model who McDonough encountered in the United Kingdom while filming Band of Brothers in 2003. Morgan "Little Buck" Patrick (born November 28, 2005), Catherine Maggie (born May 11, 2010), and James Hamilton (born March 31, 2014). He has stated that he does not perform sex or kissing scenes out of a love for his wife. He was kicked from the television show Scoundrels for refusing to film sex scenes, according to him. In 1991, McDonough won the Best Actor Dramalogue for "Away Alone." Since then, McDonough has made many television and film appearances, including Band of Brothers, Boomtown, Star Trek: First Contact, Minority Report, and The Hitcher. On the fifth season of Desperate Housewives, McDonough played Dave Williams. In addition, he appeared in the lead role on the 2004 medical drama Medical Investigation, which then lasted for one full season.

McDonough was featured in a high-profile and often airing Poolside commercial for the Cadillac ELR hybrid electric vehicle during the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on NBC.

McDonough was cast as DC Comics villain Damien Darhk on the fourth season of Arrow in 2015.
