Nathaniel Taylor Life

Nathaniel Taylor (March 31, 1938 – February 27, 2019) was an American television and film actor best known for portraying Rollo Lawson on 1970s sitcoms Sanford and Son, Grady, and Sanford's 1980s sitcom Sanford. In 1938, he was born in Missouri.

He appeared in numerous films and television shows, as well as establishing a performing arts studio.

The Redd Foxx Show, The Police Story, and What's Happening are just a few of the main shows where he appeared. .

Taylor appeared in the films Trouble Man (1972) and Willie Dynamite (1974).

He died in Los Angeles in 2019.

Early life

Taylor was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on March 31, 1938. He had two brothers (Richard and Eugene) as a child and three sisters (Betty, Mary, and Rose).

Personal life and death

Taylor was friends with fellow actor Rocco Karega and Hip-Hop promoter Alonzo Williams. Darius Owens, a North Carolina musician, was married to Loretta until his death. Taylor and Loretta had two children together. Taylor had five children from his previous marriage to Bernice Gordon-Taylor After Taylor's retirement, he opened a young artist's studio.

Taylor, James, and Pang Shing were arrested and charged on burglary charges in April 1986, alongside his brother, James, and Pang Shing. Around $200,000.00 in computers and typewriters were confiscated. According to police Lt. Howard Hughie, the arrest occurred within hours of the Sports Connection athletic club in West Los Angeles's reporting the robbery of ten IBM typewriters and a computer.

After suffering from a heart attack, Taylor was rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center on February 23, 2019. On February 27, 2019, he died as a result of the disease.

Career

Taylor spent time as an electrician at the Performing Arts Society of Los Angeles (PASLA). Larry Clark, his mentor, recommended that he try out for a part. Clark had him read a few lines to him before escorting him to Redd Foxx's room. They had spent time in St. Louis, Missouri, discussing their hometown. Foxx told Taylor that he would play Rollo Lawson.

Taylor was best known for his recurring appearance in the 1970s sitcom Sanford and Son, a role he reprised on its short-lived 1980–1981 spin-off Sanford. On the 1986 film The Red Foxx Show, Jim-Jam played the first version of Jim-Jam with Redd Foxx. He appeared in the sitcom What's Happening!! in the late 1970s, as Rerun's (Fred Berry) brother-in-law, Ike. In the short-lived Grady, Taylor revived Rollo Lawson's role. He has appeared in episodes of The Bill Cosby Show, Adam 12, and The Police Story, as a guest.

Taylor appeared in Trouble Man, starring Robert Hooks as one of Mr. Big's henchmen. Marvin Gaye's soundtrack was included in the film. Clark's As Above, So Below was his first appearance in 1973. Taylor later became Executive Director of the Performing Arts Society of Los Angeles (PASLA). He was in Willie Dynamite's blaxplosion film. Taylor has appeared in The Hunter before. He appeared in the short film Auditioning for Nathaniel, directed by Kevin Jerome Everson as himself in 2016.

In Sanford and Son, BlueLine Classics, LLC acquired the original 1951 Ford F1 used in Sanford and Son. Jeff Canter and Tim Franko, the Ford's original owners, loved the prospect of rebuilding the vehicle. They decided to reunite a cast member with the vehicle that had been restored in October 2015. Canter looked on Facebook for Taylor but could not locate him. He did, however, locate him by the old-fashioned way and contacted him. Taylor called Canter and agreed to sign autographs with the new Ford truck in October 2015. Taylor was asked to sign autographs at Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park in June 2016 with the 1951 Ford F1 'Sanford and Son Salvage' truck. He recalls in the season 4 episode, "Fred's Treasure Garden," where his character had marijuana referring to the "wild parsley" scene, which a lot of fans reminisce about.
