Nanni Moretti Life

Giovanni "Nanni" Moretti (Italian pronunciation: "nanni moretti]; born 19 August 1953) is an Italian film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor.

His films have received accolades, including a Palme d'Or at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival for The Son's Room, a Silver Bear at the 1986 Venice Film Festival for Sweet Dreams, in comparison to the David di Donatello Award for Best Film on three occasions (for Caro diario in 1994, The Son's Room in 2001 and Il caimano in 2006).

Every film he has directed since Caro diario has been on view at the Cannes Film Festival, and the Official Competition jury president in 2012 was named president of the Official Competition Jury.

Life and work

Moretti was born in Bruneck, Italy, to Roman parents who were both teachers. Luigi Moretti, a Greek scholar at Sapienza University of Rome, was his father. Franco Moretti, a literary scholar, is his brother.

Moretti discovered his two passions, cinema and water polo, as he grew up. He began studying, and in 1973 directed his first two short films: Pâté de bourgeois and The Defeat (La sconfitta).

Io sono un autarchico (I Am Self-Sufficient) was released in 1976 by Nanni Moretti's first feature film Io sono un autarchico (I Am Self-Sufficient). He wrote, directed, and starred in the film Ecce Bombo, which tells the tale of a student having issues with his entourage. It was shown at the Cannes Festival. At the 38th Venice International Film Festival, Sogni d'oro took the Silver Lion. At the 36th Berlin International Film Festival, La messa è finita deserved the Silver Bear – Special Jury Prize.

He may be best known for his films Caro diario (Dear Diary, 1993), La stanza del figlio, 1998), the latter of which received the Palme d'Or at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival.

Moretti has used particular actors in his films, mainly in minor roles. Luigi's father appears in six films, including Dario Cantarelli and Mauro Fabretti in 5, Antonio Petrocelli in 4. Silvio Orlando, the protagonist in 5 films and Laura Morante's Room, are two of the more notable Italian actors he has worked with regularly in his films.

Since playing waterpolo in the B division of the Italian championship, actor Palombella Rossa ("palombella" refers to a form of lob shot). Moretti's other films have not been widely seen outside of Europe, but in his homeland Moretti is known as a wry, comedies, with a starring himself. Mia Madre (Mother, 2015), his most recent appearance was in the film Mia Madre (Madre).

Moretti is also a vocal political leftist. He orchestrated street marches against Silvio Berlusconi's government in 2002. Il caimano (2006) is one of Berluscon's controversies: in one of the three portraits of Italian Prime Minister Moretti himself, Berlusconi appears Berlusconi. Aprile also addresses Italy's political situation and Moretti's take on it. At the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, his 2011 film We Have a Pope premiered.

He has lived in Rome, having lived there since birth, where he is co-owner of a small movie theater named Nuovo Sacher due to Moretti's passion for Sachertorte. Moretti is shown at his theater trying to lure people to attend Abbas Kiarostami's film, Close Up, in the short film Il Giorno prima di Close Up (Opening Day of Close Up, 1996).

He is not religious. "I remember the shirts that said, 'Thank God I'm an atheist,'" says the writer. It's amusing. I don't agree with that, but I don't think so. "I'm not a believer, and I'm sorry."

Mia Madre's 2015 film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
