Life and career

She was born in Decatur, Illinois, and raised in Santa Monica, California, where she attended Santa Monica High School.

The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit (1956) was her first film role. Amanda Krueger, the mother of killer Freddy Krueger, appeared in several films including The Mugger (1958), For Love of Ivy (1968), Doctor Detroit (1983), All of Me (1986), and Chuck Russell's cult film A Nightmare (1987) in which she appeared as Amanda Krueger (1987). In Thicker than Water (2005), she appeared in her last film role.

Helen Cavanaugh was portrayed on Buck James and Grace D'Angelo on Mr. Sunshine. 770-704 The Thorn Birds, a 1983 television series, and the soap opera Santa Barbara were among her other television appearances. Robert Emmett Dolan, her first husband, married on March 17, 1948; they had one son, Casey Martin Dolan. Harry Gesner, her second husband, is the father of her younger son, actor Zen Gesner.

Martin died on March 4, 2010, at her Malibu home, aged 82. She was suffering from emphysema.
