Early life

Nam Woo-hyun was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. He graduated from Dong-ah Institute of Media and Arts majoring in Applied Music. Nam Boo-hyun, the owner of BBQ restaurant Meok & Sam, has an older brother.

Nam aspired to be a soccer player from the start. However, he was unable to pursue his dream of becoming a singer while in high school and auditioned at Woollim Entertainment, one of which was YG Entertainment, to pursue a career as a solo artist. He passed the audition and was accepted into Woollim with a copy of Stevie Wonder's "Lately" and began training as an idol trainee. He admitted to being a little dissatisfied, but it was difficult to practice dancing instead.

Career

Nam was a model for a shopping mall alongside Beast's Junhyung and T-ara's Jiyeon before debuting with Infinite. He also appeared in the 6th Hello Star Competition, starring Lee Hyori's "U Go Girl." He appeared in one of his first broadcast appearances, as the lead in KooPD's music video for Guigamalo in 2007. He appeared on Mnet's Girl Punch and sang "Words That Are Unbelievable" by Lee Seung-gi later in 2009.

Infinite debuted on June 9, 2010. Nam became a member of Immortal Songs 2 in September 2011. On October 1, his first appearance on the show aired. On November 1, it was announced that he would leave the show due to Infinite's forthcoming Japanese promotions, and that his last episode will air on November 5. He made two more appearances on the show, once by himself in January 2012 and then with group mate Sungkyu in December 2012.

His interest in musical theatre began in 2012 with a supporting role in the musical Gwanghwamun Sonata. Nam and Sungkyu discussed Jiyong, the male lead's son. The musical appeared in Korea from January 3 to March 11, 2012, and in Japan from January 4 to 6, 2013. Nam made his first foray into acting in August, with a minor role in the story The Thousandth Man.

In February 2013, he released "Cactus" () with South Korean Indie Singer Lucia. It is a recreation of Epitone Project's song of the same, and it was included in Recode, a special project album.

Nam and Shinee's Key were among SM Entertainment's new units, Toheart, on February 20, 2014. Toheart debuted on March 10 with their first mini album and championship song Delicious, as well as their live debut on March 12 at a MelOn Premiere Showcase. Nam was in a lead role in the KBS drama Hi! in April. Love On: Kim Sae-ron and her groupmate Lee Sung-yeol, who plays Shin Woo-hyun, is on the film. On October 24, 2014, Nam released a soundtrack for SBS drama "When Love Comes" titled "When Love Comes." Nam directed the horror short film What Happened in Hong Kong in December.

Nam currently plays for FC Men, a South Korean celebrity football team. He was recruited to FC Men in early 2015. He had previously played for FC One. In a charity match against Jeju United FC, he made his football debut with FC Men on May 17, 2015.

Nam's first EP Write was released on May 9, 2016. He appeared on Immortal Song. He scored 439 points in that episode, the highest score among idols in the mentioned program. Nam appears on Unusual Men and Women in 2017.

Now Change in Osaka, Japan, Nam participated in a musical called "I Love You, You're Delightful." The musical is a musical comedy with a variety of age groups on display from youth to elder. He appeared on a photography variety show Photo People 2. The show was shot in Tokyo and was broadcast on June 11. Nam performed Barnum: The Greatest Showman, a musical that took place in Seoul, South Korea, from August to October 28, 2018.

Nam's second EP, Second Writer, was released on September 3, 2018. "If Only You Are Fine," the lead single is titled. On Ep 563, Nam had appeared on Happy Together 4 as a guest. He has appeared on Happy Together 4 as the special MC, displaying his highest MC abilities.

On November 2nd, Nam held his first solo concert Arbor Day at the Hannam-dong Blue Square, and all of the tickets sold out in two minutes. Nam will be joining the cast of musical The Days of Fun in Seoul from February 22 to May 6, 2019, where he appeared as a presidential bodyguard and a tumultuous female companion. Nam also performed in his Solo Concert on December 13, 2018.

Nam was accepted by the jury of TV Chosun Trot Audition Program Tomorrow's Miss Trot, a competitive survival program for female trot singers, on February 12, 2019. On May 7, Nam announced his third EP A New Journey. Also, he will begin his Asian Concert Tour from April 27, Taipei following Macau on June 2. Nam also performed in the musical Mefisto, a leading role in the run from May 25 to July 28. On August 10, 11 and 11 in Seoul, Nam performed his second Solo Concert "Arbor Day 2."

Nam enlisted for his compulsory military service as a public service soldier on October 24, but he was unable to serve as a permanent duty soldier due to his shoulder injury from 2014. On November 3, he unveiled his second digital single as a gift to fans during his military service. He officially ended his service on August 5, 2021.

Nam made his comeback with his fourth EP With on October 19, 2021.

Nam was the last member of Infinite to leave Woollim Entertainment after deciding not to renew his contract, although the group's president will still remain as a member.
