Both his parents suffered from serious substance use problems, his father from alcohol use, and his mother from crack cocaine use. Montana stopped using opioids after seeing his parents' struggles, not wanting to "fry his brain."
Montana, his brother from high school, Montelle Talley (known as "Talley of 300"), as well as several others, joined together in 2008 to form the rap group "300." The group's name was based on a film of the same name, in which a group of 300 Spartans overcame more than 300,000 Persian Soldiers to hold their territories. The line, "No Surrender, No Retreat," was a popular slogan in Montana. "Against all odds," the soldier was inspired."
