Mondo Guerra Life

Armando Thomas "Mondo" Guerra (born June 6, 1978) is a Mexican-American fashion designer who finished as runner-up on Season 8 of Project Runway and later won the series's first season of Project Runway All Stars.

Guerra has been a spokesperson for two national HIV organizations, including Merck's Project I Design and Subaru's Dining Out For Life, after being proclaimed HIV positive on the program.

Guerra was also the first contestant to appear on the show from Denver, Colorado.

Early life

Guerra is a fifth-generation Mexican-American from the Denver area. He attended the Denver School of the Arts in high school.

When living in New York City in 2001, he was HIV positive at the age of 22. He didn't start antiretroviral therapy until many years later and had troubled with adhesion, had multiple side effects, and was hospitalized more than once in the 2000s. In an interview, he discussed dealing with AIDS in the American healthcare system and reliance on Ryan White services, as well as experiencing depression and retaining his HIV status in a private manner, including from his family. He has also discussed HIV stigma and "AIDS phobia" in the gay community.
