Life and career

Karen Marie Aagaard was born in Ubberud, near Odense, and she grew up in Ejlstrup, Denmark, where the island of Funen was located. Frans rsted, the father of her children, is a psychologist, and Mette rsted, her mother, is a tutor. Kasper, a doctor, has an older sister.

M was seven when she first became interested in music as a result of the Spice Girls. As a teenager, she became interested in punk music and anti-fascist movements, listening to Black Flag, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and especially Sonic Youth, saying Kim Gordon was a "big hero and role model."

M&A released The Edmunds, a side project that included songs such as "Garbage King" and "Polly Get Your Handgun" in 2006. During 2008–10, M also launched several other side projects, ranging from "A Piece of Music to F*ck to" and "The Rarities." Songs that had been taken down due to a mystery cause were listed on the side-projects, but a fan of YouTube has re-released them.

M and her friend Josefine Struckmann Pedersen formed MOR in 2007, and released two EPs, Fisse I Dit Fjs ("Pussy in Your Face") and Vanvidstimer ("Madness Hours") in 2009 and 2011, respectively. MOR was disbanded on September 7, 2012, owing to personal reasons.

M started making cappella pop songs in 2012 and began collaborating with producer Ronni Vindahl. M.'s debut single, "Glass," was released on January 14th, 2013. On March 15, she appeared on "B-side "Maiden" and released "Pilgrim" on her B-side. "Pilgrim" was awarded the number P3s Uundg (P3 Unavoidable), a mark given to rising artists by Danish radio station DR P3, when it peaked at number eleven on the Danish Singles Chart. She appeared live on television at the Danish P3 Guld Awards on March 27, 2013.

"Waste of Time" was released on June 7, 2013. M had co-written and performed vocals on a track titled "Dear Boy," which was later released on Avicii's debut album, True. Bikini Daze, M.'s first extended play, was announced on August 30, 2013. She accompanied AlunaGeorge on UK tour dates in October 2013. On January 16, 2014, Zane Lowe's Hottest Record "Don't Wanna Dance" debuted on BBC Radio 1 as the Zane Lowe Hottest Record.

No Mythologies to Follow, M. Jackson's debut studio album, was released on March 7, 2014, and the music was inspired by the great Michael Jackson. The album has a Metascore of 77 out of 100, indicating "generally positive" reviews, according to Metacritic, which is a review website. The album was described as "complex and euphoric," by the music blog Pretty Much Amazing, while The Guardian announced that "what M lacks in innovation, she makes up for with warlike ardour." M began touring in Europe and the United States in support of the album, and it came to an end in June. On June 2, 2014, she made her US television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she performed the songs "Don't Wanna Dance" and "Pilgrim." "Walk This Way" was first introduced on June 16th, 2014 as a single from No Mythologies to Follow. M. announced new United States and Canadian tour dates on June 23rd, as well as Canadian tours beginning in September. Noonie Bao, a Swedish singer, and MNEK, an English singer, co-written the song. With the song debuting at number 14 on the UK Singles Chart, it became M's first top 40 single as a lead artist in the United Kingdom. In addition, the song debuted in top 40 in more than ten countries around the world.

On July 22, 2016, Major Lazer released "Cold Water," which stars Canadian singer Justin Bieber and M, marking her fourth time she has worked with them. "Cold Water," M's second top ten and third top 40 single in the United States, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming M's second top ten and third top 40 single in the United States. M is the most paid Danish act, alongside Jrgen Ingmann ("Apache") and Lukas Graham ("7 Years"), who have all reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100, with Jrgen Ingmann ("Apache") and Lukas Graham ("7 Years" at number two. "Cold Water" debuted on the UK Singles Chart at number one on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number one. The album was M's first number one single, but she is only the fourth Danish act to reach top-one in the United Kingdom. M announced the launching of her new track, "Drum," on Twitter on September 17, 2016. In previous concerts and performances, it had made special appearances. The song was created by American producer Bloodpop, but Charli XCX and Noonie Bao co-wrote it. The song's official audio album was released in October 2016.

Snakehips, an English electronic duo, premiered their latest track "Don't Leave" on January 6, 2017, which features vocals from M. The official lyric video was also released on the same day, and Snakehips has confirmed that it would be included in Snakehips forthcoming debut album. She appeared on Charli XCX's "3AM (Pull Up)" on March 10, 2017 featuring her mixedtape, Number 1 Angel. She appeared alongside Sophie on Cashmere Cat's song "9 (After Coachella)" on his fifth single from his debut album, 9. "Nights with You," her third single from her upcoming second studio album, was officially released on April 21 after premiering on MistaJam's BBC Radio 1 show the previous day.

When I Was Young, M.P., Ms second extended play, titled When I Was Young, was released on October 26, 2017. It was a surprise. The EP features songs that M. wrote over the course of four years, from the debut of No Mythologies to Follow. M's founder, Cashmere Cat, announced the "Mew Tour" in support of the EP on October 30th. The tour ran from January to April 2018. M co-wrote and sang on Diplo's album "Get It Right" in 2017. Give Me Future, M wrote and performed on the album "Get It Right" by Diplo. They both performed the song on The Jimmy Fallon Show on The Jimmy Fallon Show with GoldLink's appearance.

M worked with producer Jack Antonoff in 2018 to provide vocals for the Love, Simon album "Never Fall in Love." She also worked with Noah Cyrus on the album "We Are..." and was included on Alma's Heavy Rules Mixtape with the song "Dance for Me."

M released Forever Neverland, M's second studio album, on October 19, 2018 by Columbia Records. Five singles were preceded: "Nostalgia," "Sun in Our Eyes" featuring Diplo, "Weak Down," "Imaginary Friend," and "Blur" featuring Foster the People. Charli XCX, What So Not, Two Feet, and Empress Of are among the album's collaborations.
